  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DRAGON available soon? ...

I have a hard time getting answers to my Bomb Squad. About the Dragon, I know he does not know any more than us, but he could at least communicate, it is the least we can do, right?
Dragon, that would be taboo?? ... Oh no! not yet!
Come on, let's be optimistic!

I signed up for the Scarlet Dragon, cancelled the order, and signed up for the Epic trade in. Within a couple weeks for less then 10k I had an Epic with a one year warranty deal. I suggest you do the same.

As for can you later upgrade that Epic to dragon...I am sure you can...Your Scarlet is executed, your Epic however won't be...

So I think your losing something in translation my friend. Since I myself canceled and changed my order and everything worked out fine for me...

Brian,

That is very confusing. I was sure once you choose one path, you could not go the other path.

I chose the Scarlet Dragon Upgrade, my understand is that I can not go back in my choice an opt to trade in for an EPIC now..

I believe one of Jim or Jarred's posts earlier allowed a member to switch. I called my rep, and he took care of me as long as I upgraded the newly acquired Epic to a Dragon in the future.

only one switch i think... i did the same converted to epic upgrade from scarlet dragon upgrade

Who has their M being upgraded? Ive not heard of any M owner who've been asked to send it in?

Like I said, it's very slow going and I think it's a special arms-length friends of RED kinda deal at the moment. OffHollywood has a couple, John Marchant up above in this thread, Ketch has M #8 upgraded to Dragon, seems there might be 2 or 3 others out there. I suppose it will happen for those of us with an M someday soon here. I'm itching to send mine in...

I guess it's ready when it's ready. I was worried I wouldn't have my Dragon funds together in time for this...and that was a month ago. I think the likelihood of this happening this year is probably low.

By all means it doesn't diminish my appreciation for the camera I HAVE right now, I'm just going to put this on the backburner of my priorities and when it happens...it happens.

Jeff,
why "a special arms-length friends of RED kinda deal at the moment"? The group you just mentioned is the first handful of Red One and Epic owners...sounds like the upgrades are rolling out...maybe I'm next

I think the Dragon is not out to the "General Costumer", but " Beta testing" with a selected few. It is "officially" out in the field, but not for us. And should be for good reason. The ones on the field are the ones getting all the little bugs and their feedback will make "ours" ready and without said problems.

Personally It means missing this year's 60th Macau Grand Prix, which is a month from now (sorry for the shameless plug, I made this commercial, shot on Epic for the museum shots https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smr91i-WCI0 . A big disappointment for me, specially for those 7am motorcycle shots at 1280 or 1600ISO, but such is life and I pray for good weather.

Bottom line, the most important is for it to be ready and solid as a tank like the other cameras and sensors were/are. Can't wait!

I think that the secret lies in the firmware. Dragon firmware is still in beta. Once it moves from beta to release, that's when we can all start prepping our post rigs for Dragon.

just tell ur rep you want to buy an epic upgrade instead now...i did it and have had my camera over a month now... i plan to get a dragon too and signed up.

Also, in regards to the whole Scarlet Dragon to Epic Dragon, they never had a Scarlet X to Epic X upgrade under regular circumstances. So why would they offer a Scarlet Dragon to Epic Dragon under regular circumstances. Basically everybody is gonna have to figure out what they want, what's best for their business/hobby, and make that decision. Personally, Carbon Dragon is looking really appealing.... ;)

First deduction on your posts:
The market for existing technology works as follows:
It is now the client who tests what he bought.
Because everything has to go fast, very fast.
So, the Red Dragon will she escape this context?
Only someone like Jim can answer.
But if that's the case ... then I'm willing to settle for the Epic (which will replace my Scarlet) ... and I think it will take at least six months before the Dragon is like everyone wants.
An Epic Mount Motion + a + new Fan kit ... that's all.
But again, it all depends on what Red decides ...

I don't get why this discussion happens over and over again.

Jarred said limited rollout till mid October. Last he said was they were stockpiling sensors and boards for upgrades. DragonColor was also mentioned for mid October release as well as the new Adobe update to support DragonColor. So why are we assuming they are behind schedule when we're not even there yet?! Come on everyone, lets wait till mid October before we start talking about them being late...

Matt,
The problem is that we have no new information to see if everything went as planned. That does not reassure a lot of people. As you have seen so I am not alone in wondering if the Dragon is well delivered as planned in October?? Beyond forums, so get information directly from Red, right? ... Except the Bomb squad still remain silent about it ... so of course, we ask questions ... and the first crap rumors are already coming ...

Christophe,

No comment. Désolé pour le ton de ce post, mais j'ai pas pu me retenir...

DRAGON MY GOD...

DRAGON MY GOD...

I suppose it will happen for those of us with an M someday soon here. I'm itching to send mine in...

Also waiting...and if you have the funds book a DRAGON CARBON FIBER VERSION and get it in October end.....

I agree completely, Matt. It amazes me how impatient people are. Sensor officially released in April, first footage seen in August. Not everyone here is of the caliber of Mark Toia, so people should stop expecting that because he and a few others got beta models suddenly means everything is ahead of the announced schedule. Jarred said October, it'll be October. Chances are the Dragon Carbon Fiber is a hint. Jarred said shipping at the end of October. Chances are, that's when he's hoping a lot of Epic M to Epic Dragon M upgrades will be out of the way.

Everyone should also remember that if you just order a Dragon straight out, no trade-in, that your wait time will be even longer. The trade-ins will happen first because they don't have to build a whole new camera, and RED, unlike certain other companies, treats it's lifetime customers and just previous customers in general with a little deference.

So just be patient people. Dragon will come soon enough, and don't plan on using on any projects before the New Year.

Christophe,

There are a lot of variables in this program, Jarred was upfront a month ago and said that sensor yields were low and that would change towards the end of September which is true. Camera's have started to be upgraded, obviously we want this program to kick off just as quickly as our customers do. Remember this isn't the first time we have done an upgrade program :) We understand that our customers want to upgrade and want it done ASAP but until we have a large volume of sensors it is a slow roll out.

The Bomb Squad isn't going to tell you things they don't know, and things change hourly at RED :)

Thank you,

Keegan

I purchased the Motion Mount (will be here tomorrow) out of impatience with Dragon delivery, well, at least partly so. Another few weeks and I'll probably grab the XL battery system. Very clever, RED.
