  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Ronin-MX

How well does the MX work with the Weapon MG?

How well does the MX work with the Weapon MG?

I think the pair should work well considering that was one of the reasons for this Ronin iteration. I've been using a stripped down Dragon with Ronin-M since last October, only had issue once which got fixed as soon as I updated FW. I can only imagine there's an improvement now, however, I have one coming in very soon, I will provide feedback as soon as I receive it.

Any thoughts on best cases for the Ronin-MX? Right now looking into the Pelican 1560 vs 1650

Hello, can I power RAVEN camera from the Ronin MX back battery through Jetpack SDI/HDMI? Thanks

You can power the raven with any of the ronin batteries plus this battery attachment http://store.dji.com/product/ronin-m-battery-power-distributor and a cable like any of the below:

I could not find any cases out yet for ronin MX, I ended up using the pelican I purchased for ronin M plus am old pelican insert from a size more like 1650 cant remember exactly (pic below). My ronin M fit perfectly in a XL f-stop ICU. I think eventually I will pickup a master ICU from f-stop for the MX, if the dam thing is every back in stock. Nice to fit it in ICU because then can go into backpack mode if need be.

Got mine on Saturday. Originally ordered from DJI Direct in late May, but cancelled and ordered from Amazon when I realized they could get it to me faster.

Don't yet have the power distributor, so tried to rig my barebones Epic Dragon w/a hypercore slim battery (via quickplate module) and a rokinon lens. No luck. Seems to over burden it. For what it's worth the Epic seems to be right at the top of the weight limit for the MX, requires external power.

Also, in addition to not coming with a case, it also doesn't come with a monitor mount clamp. Had to order one separately. Several hidden costs between that and the power distributor, power cable, camera battery, and case - will basically end up the cost of a regular ronin when all is said and done.

Been using the MX for about a week now with my weapon.... I believe its an advancement in the tech for Dji I believe its too small for use w/ reds. pretty disappointing given they have used reds in every one of their advertisements.

Basically this is a Ronin M that has been re engineered

If you are using this for drone work ( naked camera / minimal glass ) it will work.

Trying to run cinema glass / FIZ / etc etc look elsewhere ( tilta ? grimsy ? defy? )

not to mention ( as stated in previous post) once you purchase everything you need to make this work: Battery Distribution plate / Power cable / Tilt extensions / monitor - accessory mounts / monitor relocation adaptors - cables you basically are adding 800-1000 bucks.

I guess in summary this unit ( ronin- mx) is extremely limited for RED users. you are better off with other options

Adam I have the plate and yes makes it easier ... you also need the tilt extension arms for my weapon to even fit into the cage.....

Still scratching my head as to why DJI used a red in almost every picture promoting this tool and it does not fit without modifications.

even with the cinemilled stuff ( the only real way to get a solid balance) the 10lb payload limits you tremendously.

my opinion is the FS7 will not fit... I have flown the FS7 on the full size ronin and needed extensions, the MX is much smaller. Basically whatever you can mount on a Ronin M will work on the MX nothing more

Marcel. Look into cinemilled pro dovetail plate to offset the weight a bit and add more to the front of your kit. I am going to test the system with my FS7 when it arives on Tuesday.

Thanks for this feedback Marcel. I personally have a Ronin M and was thinking about the MX for my S-W (still waiting on it). I did some weight calculations and it seems like the M can handle a very stripped down S-W using still glass (Sigma 18-35 specifically) while powering externally (planning on a handle-mounted V-Mount plate). I've got an easy-rig with serene arm which should take the weight. Kind of a bummer that all the DJI stuff was RED heavy in advertising just to have it under-perform. Really appreciate you sharing your experience.

Still doing some testing and found this little jem deep in the back pages of DJI: http://store.dji.com/product/ronin-mx-accessory-kit-for-red

I ordered it and will report back

Dude I was gonna mention something about that, I did know it was a separate part, but I saw something like that on the top of the rig in the DJI photos and didn't see it in the ones you sent me. I just assumed you had taken in off when you were trying to get the weapon to fit. Lemme kno if that fixes it for you.

thanks Brody the on it comes with is a Hot / cold shoe mount for dslr so i took it off, look like this is what i needed extensions / top plate ....
