  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

People keep saying $35k but Jim's new PDF says $33k! Am I missing something?

The S35 to FF35 upgrade just got a $2k discount!
 
Can't wait to get my hands on the S35 Scarlet... a dream come true/the camera i've been waiting for.. for forever!

(and i'll pick up a FF35 one at some point too!..)

Minus selling the S35.

Also, consider that it would be upgrading from an Epic X.

Which means you don't have to buy the battery/cf/io modules. Also, the Limited Edition will have a slightly better resale value.

Correct?
 
Wow! I take a couple hours and tape a talking-head show and the whole forum explodes while I'm gone.

RED team - thanks for what you've done. I'm looking forward to how the fixed lens scarlet or 2/3" scarlet cinema brain (in B4 mount) with I/O, CF recorder, & battery module turn out as they get closer to shipping. (Think ENG/EFP)

3K, FF1080p @multiple frame rates, ramping, form factors, etc. - you guys have been working hard on the magic behind translating sensor data into redcode!

Looking forward to more details!

GUYS:

Sensor binning on the WHOLE, NOT pixel binning.

Also, Jim and company, I think it would be wise to prepare an FAQ before making the announcements, thus when everything is spilled, people can refer to it instead of clogging this thread, which is voiding it of any meaningful discussion.

the other posts except jarred's (from Red) don't answer the question of "what's Red's policy on the SS35-FF35 upgrade'...not every other forums members opinion or did I miss a post?

Has anyone thought that maybe - instead of these specs not being good enough - that maybe they're too good? With the exception of the production houses out there who are lucky enough to buy 2-3-4-5 camera packages (or more) - it's quite possible that for the average filmmaker they may never need to buy another camera nor upgrade.

Put it in perspective, these numbers are astounding both in the pricing and the specs. Maybe Red is doing themselves a disservice by being too good too early?
 
The product range is so broad (which is good thing), but it makes for a very disparate and desperate thread. Before long folks are going to have to set up separate discussion threads to bring any kind of focus out of mild mayhem. People have too many particular interests.

Mine being Scarlet S35 vs. FF35 (anyone?)

Key word is "current." Anything can change in one year. I am hoping the Scarlet will stay the same, but it wouldn't surprise me if something similar will be released around the same time as Scarlet.

once upon a time.. a crazy night before christmas 2008.. tom had began his new timelapse babes program w/ his new canon toy.. never visited us again.. red lost not exactly one customer more (w/ thousands.. one more one less is the same) but a cool fanboy (sorry tom.. ehehehehehe couldn't resist once again :)) :love:

Hey Jim, this is just like when u first started showing clips; never enough or good enough for a lot of folks, must be very, VERY frustrating.
I can't wait to trade in for one of those cameras nobody wants and somehow I'm going to get the bucks together for the 617.

I'm bummed that we disappointed/pissed off Jim. On one level, I crave the extra DR as much as those that caused the ruckus (yes, in part to make up for my own shortcomings as a photographer), but stepping back, I can see how we are starting to sound like unappreciative spoiled children :).

How many cameras have you bought that could be used as credit for new gear? How many companies reserve their best new sensors for prior customers?

Yeah, you know where I'm going: Red is being INCREDIBLY generous here, in ways that are unprecedented. I think all of us owe Jim and the Red team a huge heart-felt thank you, and an apology for questioning Jim's generosity. If we are really consumed with lust for Monstro, we have a clear path to get it. If we are willing to "settle" for an Epic-X package that is even better than our already ground-breakingly awesome Red One, we have a clear path to get it.

We should acknowledge that what has been offered is nothing short of incredible.

Jim - As a group, I hope you'll forgive us for ALWAYS asking for a bigger scoop of ice cream, even when the scoop you've offered us is the biggest, best one that we've ever seen.

After the last announcement, I'm sure they could guess what kind of questions will arise from the masses here. Certain questions have already been asked a dozen times today.

If not, I'd be more than willing to write one for them after they've leaked the announcement to me early. :innocent:
 
Why does Scarlet seem more of the Handycam all of the sudden. Either way, congratulations on your new Panavision exterminators.
