  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

red should take care of a new useful gadget.. because a fanboy club would take a lot of time.. why not medals available at the store?.. but only till the monstro release..

I know some people won't appreciate this, but I for one, am happy to see that Red is actually starting to charge for some of these innovations. Sure it would be great to have the world's greatest camera free-for-life, but how long do you think the world's greatest camera company would stay in business operating as a charity?

I think Red has gone above and beyond to provide an upgrade path for early adopters of their new paradigm for digital cinema. At the same time, I hope they make a ton of money because if they do not, we will all fail and have to go back to the world of Sony and Panasonic.

I think Jim and co understand that a state of the art camera doesn't have to cost $250,000, but I'm encouraged to see that the new releases might include a small amount of profit for Red while at the same time being very affordable for us.

Having said that, I currently have a full shopping cart at Red.com/store. Should I pull the trigger on an upgradeable Red One or wait a while?!?
 
Since everything is so modular, could we have two storage modules (probably HDD instead of CF) and record simultaneusly to be able to have two copies from the get-go?

Saves from having a laptop on-location to make copies and one copy could go for CC at the end of the day and the other in a safe place... :)

Anyone thought about this?

Great idea. Let us stack storage modules for double, triple, quadruple redundancy.

No HDDs though. I toasted 3 of them last week. (not Red drives, thankfully!)

Using S16mm as the format, 25mm focal length, 1.8 f/stops, and a distance of 10' to the subject yields:

Depth of field
Near limit 8.86 ft
Far limit 11.5 ft
Total 2.63 ft

Pretty good, no? The lens numbers are from the 25mm Scarlet mini prime.

I understand that you weren't being unappreciative with your posts, I think people just mistook the tone of your writing as being unappreciative, but in essence you were being constructive. It happens a lot in forums.
 
The price points of these 2/3 Scarlets should be
a huge wakeup call to Apple that R3D files
will be the norm for incoming media in the near future.
I'm really expecting big things now from FCS3
 
First post, but I have been roving these forum walls for many months now.
Red, you have fulfilled dreams and given hope to so many indie film makers that I have no doubt everything is about to change.
I have noticed a trend since the last NAB and that is Red continues to improve and over deliver on each and every product unveiling.
Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, you guys tops yourselves and the industry while blowing every member of this forum away.
Congratulations.
I think the fixed lens Scarlet will be a camera I will cherish for many years to come as it is simply perfect. However, you guys might just top perfect in months to come too!

Thanks for the link (and other info that people posted). I'll reread the forum to see if i can clarify things.

I'm just one of those chimpanzees that can hear the words, know the basics of what they mean, but can really understand it when i see the pictures comparing the two in front of me.

Luckily I have the time to sort this stuff out.

I wish I could understand why DOF gets shallower when more light enters the camera and broader when less light enters the camera. How does quantity of light control how in or out of focus something is based on it's distance? I'd think something would get darker the farther away it is, not more out of focus.
 
First off, RED you guys...umm...well...you're awesome. Let's just leave it at that. You're making very high quality filmmaking accessible for a lot of people (including broke film majors!)

Sorry if this has been posted already, but a couple of questions:

1. What is in the "complete kit" for the fixed lens Scarlet?
2. If the brain only for the Scarlet costs $3000, and the "complete kit" costs $3750, does that mean that we can get the other 2/3" Brain, "complete kit" for $3250?

I suppose this has been asked already, but what exactly is the difference between the scarlet 2/3" fixed lens "Brain and Lens" and the "Complete Kit"? I.E. What additional components/features/modules come with the complete kit?
