  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I threw this idea out last month but I don't think anyone noticed.

Does it make more sense to have, say 12 different sensors, or just 4 but you cripple them in different combinations so you end up with 12 "different ones".

I know it's not as simple as that - a lot has to do with the accompanying electronics - but there's no reason why a sensor couldn't be crippled....

Maybe I'm just talking non-sense now.

I wouldn't call it a mess, I know everyone would like everything yesterday, rome wasn't built in a day. I think considering RED is the equivalent of a toddler in technology terms they are doing pretty damn well. how long have sony, panny and canon been around , decades , they've never done anything like this , they are still drip feeding the patient just enough to keep it alive but not enough to make it feel alive
 
Signal-noise ratio has gone through the floor...not enough new info so far to justify 60 pages of 'OMGOMG'...it's just a minor update on the Nov 13th announcement, folks. No wonder RED enthusiasts get regarded by some as fashion victims...this slew of one-line content-free posts is ridiculous, and burying any attempt at discussion.

I don't think it's the Red way either but it makes more economical sense from a logistics and R&D dollars standpoint.

You know when you buy a piece of software and you can pay $x-more to unlock features - that those features were always there - just dormant. It would be easier/cheaper for Red to focus on a few pieces of silicon and just cripple the higher-end ones.

Ok I think I beat the horse enough - sorry.

Come on everyone. It's just two guys. David and his sidekick FMG.

David and FMG, we all get the fact that the Monstro is the better sensor. And to be fair, you have to pay for this better technology that Jim is developing and making. If you upgrade to the Epic X, of course you're going to have to sell it at a loss even after using it for 6 months. If you don't like that, then save the 10.5k you would have paid to upgrade to the Epic X, wait 6 months, and pay the "extra" 7k for the FF35. What's so difficult to understand? If you can't afford it, then start saving until you can. What more is there to say?
