I see two benefits for working for RED:
1. A paycheck which can go towards a scarlet
2. Seeing early prototypes of the cameras.

i'm also saying that the FF35 is the camera people really want and if there was a way (of course there is) they'd jump over the SS35 option and head directly to the FF35.

But what I'm asking is what is the SS35 to FF35 upgrade....$35K.

The jump from S35 EPIC to Monstro FF would be $35k...only if you kept the S35 brain. I don't see how this could be any other way. They are completely different specs, so any other discounted path wouldn't make sense at all from a business standpoint. If you want to upgrade to FF monstro in 2010, go for EPIC X, then sell the brain when Monstro comes out.

It's 4096 x 2048 only if you're shooting 2:1.

By default, 4K means 4096 x 2160.

or 4096 x 2304 ( 16:9 )

That's a about a 441 Megapixel still image (if my math is right at a 16x9 aspec ratio) x 30 per second. Insane.

We better get down to $1/terabyte of storage pretty quick--is all I'm saying.

I think this info falls under the SUBJECT to CHANGE.

and based on the crit. and comments they get on the renders alone, i think they're leaving it out on purpose for more reasons then just marketing.

Technically, I suppose it can be any number of things depending on what we're talking about (projectors, digital cinema 4K, full aperture 4K, ad nauseum).

This Epic X thing seems pretty cool. I'm soooo curious what this "select" thing is all about. The skeptic in me sees it like when they write on DV tapes "better color." But Jim knows he's not talking to fools, so there's got to be something cool going into the "select" sensors.

Not to mention the I/O data rate - I posted a couple weeks ago that, in my opinion, it's going to take years before optical media can be read at such a high data rate. It's one thing to cram all the bits onto the plastic but anothr thing to read it all back fast enough to maintain a 30FPS video signal.

And that was the allure of RedRay - it's not just a playback unit but a real-time playback unit. Now we could approach those crazy read speeds with solid state media....
