  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cloud upload options. Could there be a local storage option?

Is there a world where the Komodo/V-Raptor could upload the files to a drive/drives connected to a local network?

I see the need for a program thats been purpose built to carry out the action but would it be possible if such program existed and Red allowed the integration?

They actually already allow it via RED Connect, but that's currently Raptor only.
https://www.red.com/red-connect

I did some tinkering with Komodo year one with spitting data out into a much larger SATA RAID which allowed for all day filming, literally. From there we were able to automate internal network offload, backup, etc. Found some interesting things to tend to in terms of workflow, but I would say that depends on what you're doing.

Seams like a no brainer to create. Copying files over network is not realy rocket sience. Is file access available in the SDK?

To me this would be more valuble then the cloud upload. For dit’s to get files out of the camera without swapping media and instrad offload in between takes would simply be a game changer.

When running RED CONTROL PRO app on a Mac there is an option on the FTP/Connect tab to automatically offload clips (R3D or Proxies only)… this can also be very fast if you are connected using an 5GB usb-c to ethernet adapter on the KOMODO and disable the encryption in FTPS preferences…

Komodo does support 5G Network? Can you please specify the firmware version and adapter needed?

This 5G Ethernet adapter from QNAP works fine with the KOMODO LINK… In order to benefit from the fastest transfer speed it you have to disable FTPS data encryption in camera menu… this option is available in RAPTOR release FW but on KOMODO it requires FW 1.7.0 which is still in beta for now…

This information is very valuable. Unfortunately the QNAP Adapter is not compatible with Mac Computers (nor Intel neither M1/2). On REDs Website this adapter is shown several times: https://sabrent.com/collections/accessories/products/nt-ss5g
It seems to have at least basic support for Macs. Do you or anybody else ever tested this Adapter with the Komodo and does it work with the actual FW 1.7?

I have not tried the Sabrent here yet myself but will order one to test soon.

Basically you can use the QNAP or Sabrent on camera side and from there it is a regular 5GB ethernet that can communicate with any router or device on the other end,,, so on my mac I used a Sonnet 10G interface but you can use any compatible 5GB network interface on that side, including a Mac with native 10G like Mac studio, Mac Pro or a Mac mini M1/2 with the 10G option...

The Sabrent TH-S3EA (10G) works without specific driver with my MacPro M2 out of the box. But both the TH-S3EA and the NT-SS5G need a specific driver for Linux. So the question is simply wether RED incorporated a Linux driver for the QNAP and NT-SS5G. The informations on their website are confusing. On product photos they show only the Sabrent. In the text only the QNAP is mentioned. Please keep us informed about your experience with the NT-SS5G.

Thanks for replying with all the information, everyone. It seems inevitable that it will become an option down the road.
