Canon C300 Announcement...

Just for hell of it I searched vimeo for Canon 300 C and Zacuto already has a rig and video on it. Bullshit man. How was all this kept secret for so long : here is one link http://vimeo.com/31442135

Here's another: http://vimeo.com/31499151

BTW, I have a friend (can't say who, who claims to have access) If we can get access to pics and possibly a cam to test on our sliders I'll for sure have it on our site next week. www.cinezenusa.com Lets hope

well we are all missing this vital piece of information - I am thinking that it might come with a lens or such?!?! - if there is some info missing they better set the record straight fast cause they are becoming the laughing stock of their potential customers just about now ;)

;)

-No 2k
-No 24 frames proper
-720p 60, really?
-Mpeg2?? (o, hell no!?)
-Plastic.

What can I say. JJ must be exploding to put the data out

I'm probably not the first one who says this, but $20,000 for this camera...wow, just wow...

They are clearly targeting pro TV and some film work. The $20,000 price tag doesn't matter.

Why are some shows shot on Alexa when it costs more than an epic?

Why do so many shows/movies still shoot film?

This camera will get sold. Not to consumers... probably not even to film students. And not to event videographers.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see several tv shows shooting on it next year.

so little important information.. considering people are about to potentially burn all their cash up on scarlets in a few hours.. they really didn't try to win any of these customers over did they? i guess they figure they just cant compete with RED or win over slightly savvy customers?

I dunno - I think most DP's choose Alexa because it looks good out of the box and ARRI is a trusted name. Also, the Alexa works very well with current film rigs. This thing doesn't have anything special mount-wise, doesn't have a trusted name (Canon's not a go-to for pro DP's that who can choose any digital camera they'd like to rent).

1080P

Dynamic Range looks awesome. Good looking for sure. Resolution doesn't look as good as I've seen on RED in the wide angle shots... could be vimeo. Or not. Definitely some compression weirdness in the dust. Probably Vimeo's h264.

Nice cam... but wow. Now if it comes with 3 lenses and the street price is $16k that'll be different.

I'd say that the 5D being full frame (and the difference in image that comes with it vs. S35) makes that camera more valuable than the C300.
I completely disagree, having seen footage from the 5D. Big sensor? Big deal. It's more of a meme than a selling point. And there's no way I'd shoot anything other than hobby videos with the 5DII. Its effective fill area (in video mode) is quite poor.

The C300 per se is not a bad camera, but Jannard is right: even with 1080 delivery (to TV or 2k projection), 1080 output is unjustifiable.

is it really true?
4k sensor, but HD output???

Pretty good looking imagery coming out of this camera, judging by the shown material.
If 10 bit comes out of the HD-SDI, which seems logical, it's pretty usable for a lot of applications.

Current specs, product design and material examples put it above F3, FS100 and AF100, so with that considered pricing seems justified.

4" lcd choice keeps it compact, yet with huge usability difference over 3.5". EVF specs are not disclosed yet, but the fact that EVF is stuck to the back of a motion imaging camera, even without the external recorder in mind, makes an EVF of questionable purpose.

Esthetically speaking, device design is pretty nice, except for the handle which looks like it's coming from another camera.
6.4 lb/2.9 Kg in a workable package (without lens) is great. In general, ergonomics look great. Also, rotating handle will mean a lot for handheld.

Waveform, Histogram, Vectorscope, RGB parade = pretty nice to have. As well as wireless control through smart phones or tablets.

Material on Canon website is way too compressed so not really usable for realistic perception. Vimeo material, although still highly compressed gives a better insight.
IMO motion looks good, resolution looks good, DR looks good, color response tough to judge on final graded version but nice looking final. Picture looks pretty clean, without noticeable moire and aliasing, and it holds up in shaky shots without jello effect, even on very shaky car chase scenes with high frequency vibrations.
Some highlights on the car could have looked nicer.

"Only 1080p output, this is crap" type of comments seem silly, with 99,99% of current delivery standards being 720p, 1080i & 2K DCP...and since the material is not from a native 1080p imager as with other "1080p" cameras, but scaled down from 4K one, so "not quite the same".

"Canon sucks because they don't give me Epic specs for less money".
I suggest some reality check.

"Not in Epic league".
Obviously. Don't see what made it look like it was targeted to be.

Congrats Canon.
