  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Glad you are back and OK. Nothing more invigorating than an ASIC! They are like interconnected snowflakes. Every function you add raises the complication exponentially. If it runs OK on the simulator, then maybe the problem is a defect in the chip? Or maybe it runs OK on the simulator, and the chip is OK, but there is some timing discrepancy between what the simulator executes and what the ASIC executes? The ASIC is so fast it gets ahead of itself somewhere. You all will figure it out. In the meantime, I'm having a blast with my RED One.

Sanjin, did you make your camera upset again?

for now we have a gremlin.

Very important report for tatoo owners... Never made wet your EPICs, and never, ever be fed after midnight! For bright light, just use NDs.

PD. I believe that 'Gizmo' is a great name for next Epic builded

Thanks for the honesty Jim. It is greatly appreciated.

We're all glad you're well now.

Take care of yourself. Your health is more important than ANY camera.

Jim, thanks for your candor. I am glad you're feeling better. My current euphoria over my MX camera is fueling my patience for Epic. MX is amazing, it is like having a new camera, I call it the Red Two. I am confident after seeing the Epic Prototypes in Las Vegas that the finished camera will change everything in this industry, and in my humble opinion become the benchmark for all other cameras. I also think the Epic will create great debate over whether film is quickly becoming obsolete. I remember this same debate in stills 10 years ago. First digital was cool but film was better, then they were equals (I think this is kinda where epic is going to be) and later digital was generally considered superior. Digital cinema will follow this same trend and Jim you are leading the way with RDC and Epic. Thanks for everything. I am with you all the way.

Have you tried blowing on it then sticking the cartridge back in gently?

Now that I am back, I will promise to keep you informed. Good news and bad.

I dont think anyone expects any more than this. News is news and we are all interested in progress even if theres a delay. I guess many (including me) are just interested to see how its all going.

Good to see youre back and in shape.

Glad to see you're back and in good health! The news is disappointing, but not heart-breaking. You and your team of geniuses will be able to slog through the firmware and manufacturing muck to bring to the public the greatest camera system the world has seen in generations.

Keep up the good work!

Welcome back. Glad to see you are rested, repaired, and back in action. Thank you for your dedicated and candid approach. It's hugely appreciated...

Jim,

We are thankful that you are back with us and also appreciate the forward thinking to communicate when an issues arises. I have much respect for you and your team to see this one out. Since your a Private Company thankfully your stock doesn't dip:)

Goodluck and Happy Hunting!

Life is short. People are measured by what they do... and not what they say they are going to do. So trust me when I tell you I will not rest until we do what I said we will do.

Jim

To a degree... but the people that love you as a father, partner or friend will see it very differently. As someone who is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer I can tell you now, in my opinion, what you do means nothing to those who are closest to you. Just being there, even doing nothing, is treasure to those people.

I understand and respect your drive Jim but there are more important things in this life than a deadline. If this cancer gets the better of me , which I don't believe it will, I am not going to arrive at my last breath wishing I had done more work. I'm going to be glad I spent more time with my wife and young sons... so that if I become a memory in the hearts of those that love me then it will be a memory they cherish.

At least that's my take on things these days....

Kris.

When we 1st got wind of this, we decided to make EPIC in the US, hoping that the company would find a solution in time for Scarlet production.

One insignificant vote in favor of making the cameras in the US. I'd happily pay a bit more for an American made camera, and it would be yet another powerful revolution from RED.

Turn that "campus" into a factory -- and I'll bet Vegas or some place will hand out dream tax breaks for manufacturing jobs.
