Just received a BT Red One. In fantastic condition.

Pressed Undo and Joystick simultaneously to see how many hours it had....

Only 1,000 hrs on the nose.

I would be curious to see how many hours were on the other BT Red Ones....

Feel free to post em...

My BT Red One looks pretty decent. A few scuffs here and there but I like it, gives it character. The hours on it didn't phase me until I saw how low everybody else's hours are. Mine has 3,779. I'm new to Red and so thankful for the opportunity to own this amazing camera...but should I be worried about the hours, or is that relatively low for this magnificent beast?

I wouldn't worry about the hours too much. They went in and check everything to make sure things were in good shape. I think the high hours shows how efficent it is working. I would rather have it working well then sitting and collecting dust and possibly creating some issues. It's kind of like a car enging in my opinion...but I could be dead wrong! Either way I wouldnt worry what your hour total is!

No worries I have a client that keeps their on at all times... for a few years now. Still that camera have not had a single issue.

Thanks Björn, it's a relief to hear that. I guess I was worried because it'll take me some time to save up the funds to get my R1 up and shooting, and since the battle tested R1's only have the 90 day re-warranty, I didn't want any surprises when I finally got my kit together. But it's sounds like I shouldn't worry too much about the hours from what you and several others are saying. Thanks again!

I was concerned about this too and can tell you I wrote to my RED rep and be basically said the hours have no importance or bearing on the overall life or longevity of the camera. Everything should be fine but if something like a "loose" joystick" or navigation control button is a little off you can send it in for repair and it may be under the warranty. My hopes are that they keep customer service and do upgrades for the future on this great camera. If the demand is high enough, maybe they will re-invent some upgrades on this camera and not allow it to just die off from age

Dan,

As I understand it the only upgrades will be firmware.

Dave, Im sure you are right about that, no upgrades to design are really needed and there are plenty of third party accessories but what do you think about future ability for sensor upgrades and will firmware updates be consistent well into the future...I guess one can only hope right??

Thanks

no sensor upgrades, Red One is discontinued. It does not have the ability for an upgraded sensor. Jim said in a post the Red One would not be able to upgrade and was EOL. I personally still love the Red One. Shot a ton of projects on one. Kind of wish I got in on this deal and just bought one to have.

Yes I do remember him saying that, BUT does EOL imply no future firmware or serviceability? For example, not being able to get anything repaired (with or without a warranty)?? Or does EOL mean SOL??

End of Line in terms of being discontinued. Jared said they stocked up on parts to repair the Red Ones, but no further sales or products will be available. No sensor upgrades. I'm sure firmware will be updated in the near future, but don't expect it as often as Scarlet/Epic updates. I'm sure if you need repairs they will have the parts and service it for years to come...

No problem, I would have picked one up if I wasn't putting money into a wedding haha. $4,000 for a R1MX is a deal of a life time, end of line or not. Have fun shooting with it!
