  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Brook Willard's Epic Accessories...

Brook, this looks great. I will definitely want one of these in my arsenal. I would, however, like to echo the concern about possibly voiding the warranty by removing the top plate. I'm wondering if you have any insight on this?

Also, I love the "Danger, Jet Blast" on the back, haha.

I have run the final design by RED. Making sure that these parts are 110% on the level was my primary concern.

This would suggest it doesn't void the warranty.

This is awesome by the way Brook, I usually try to avoid putting non-RED manufactured stuff on my camera but I think I may have to make an acception for this.

Will you be doing similar plates for the Scarlets as well? Such a handy cheese plate...would love to have one available for Scarlets as well.
Definitely. As soon as I get my hands on a Scarlet I'll take measurements and start mocking things up.
Hi Brook,

Are you or Curt going to be at NAB with these? We would like to interview you and Curt about these to include in the Finner Knows Best NAB video.

cheers
Daren

Hey Daren!

I won't be at NAB [working...] but if my Epic is available I'll send it with Curt so he can have it in his booth. If not, there will be a few Epic-M owners floating around with my gear on their cameras. I'll keep you posted.
Love the spidey !
Heheh, its nice having access to a laser engraver. :)
Looks really good! What are the requirements for the logo? $15 is very reasonable.
Oh good point, yeah is there a way to choose fonts or an actual logo?

You can do any logo you choose. Just have an illustrator file or an EPS file [or equivalent] with the fonts outlined ready when you order. We'll probably put together a template to make it easier in the near future.
Looks nice.

Don't like the 'by Brook Willard'. Nothing against you, we don't know each other. I just don't need people tagging the equipment I use. The company name, no problem. And yes, I don't have to get one.

Nice design though.

Agreed, it definitely looks pretty ham-fisted in these pictures. When you see it on a camera, the logo is inset enough that you'll have to really hunt to find it. The picture above is a pretty good example of how it looks in the real world.

This is a pretty cool accessory. We've seen all the iterations of the FMJ-Top and it has been exciting. Brook has done a good job and it really does disappear once it is on the camera [in a sense]. Logo and order coming your way!

Got mine from Brook last week and it is beautifully thought out. I am encouraging him to design more accessories for the Epic as soon as possible. With our Epics in 3D rigs there was a lot of last minute piecing together of mounting parts. He has had the chance to really play around with what works and doesn't.
Can't wait for my next Willard AKS

Thanks Brook

Peter

This is EXACTLY the plate I was hoping would get made. Glad to hear you have plans for make one for the Scarlet. The ability to have so many more holes to mount the LCD and other accessories (that spiffy XLR mount device I saw around here a few days ago comes to mind) is needed i.m.o. glad to hear you've ventured into designing your own accessories!

Okay cool! Wasn't sure if that was offered within the $15, but it is and that's very awesome.

Are there only the two front screws connecting the accessory? Also, what is the module connected to the REDmote, is that the 3D module?

The front two screws are the primary load-bearing screws. It also attaches with four M3 screws towards the back of the plate. They are primarily alignment screws. The 1/4-20s up front are rated for something like 10,000 pounds or some other obscene amount.

The piece you're seeing on the back is RED's module adapter.

Great Brook! Looks so cool with the logo. Two questions as yet unanswered are: 1. Red approved (ie, no warranty problems) and 2. Weight differential from the original top plate (although, to be fair, IMHO this needs to be compared to the original top plate with a cheeseplate attached as well).

Nice to have prices on this stuff before our Epic-X ships so we can start to budget for the extras. Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve.
