  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

I got my Birger mount yesterday. I've been completely swamped with fixing computer problems so I haven't had time to install the mount, but hopefully I'll get a chance to install it this weekend.

I would guess, if you requested the mount without a Impero, checking in would not be a crime.. But if you asked to get the whole thing all at once (As I would have) then you know it's gonna be another week or so as Curt gets his upgrade in place.

Jay

I installed the Birger mount today, then shot some quick footage using an old cheap Canon zoom lens (35-80 F/4.5-5.6). It might be my imagination, but the buttons on the Birger mount seem smoother than they were the first time around.

I'll try to post some footage after I figure out how to get it edited. Any recommendations on a freeware video editing app that I might use for editing the footage? I'm running a Vista64 OS but would switch to Linux if necessary.

There are still a lot of people in front of you (Dec 5)....

Ok, it is all making sense to me now. Eric has more than 230 orders in the cue. That answers my questions as to why he never releases any shipping quantities. We could then do the math. 4 mounts every 2 weeks.... that's about 100 mounts per year....

I've attempted to collimate the Birger mount, but my lens won't achieve collimation until the collimation assembly is so deep in the mount that it protrudes out the back. As a result, the outer ring of the Birger mount can't make contact with the RedOne body, there is a gap between the outer ring and the body of the Red One.

It seems kind of weird for the outer ring not to make contact with the body. I had thought the strength of the mount came from contact of the outer ring with the body. But perhaps the collimation portion is supposed to be the part of the mount that makes contact with the body? Maybe the outer ring is simply along for the ride?

What glass are you using?

Really a good, wide prime, that has been checked to be in proper order itself on a projector is needed to ensure the best possible results. If the lens you are using is off, all your attempts to set up the mount will be off.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

I'm using a Sigma 17-35 F/2.8-4. It's not the best lens, but it reaches infinity on my Canon SLR, so it should also reach infinity on the Birger mount. But to get it to focus to infinity, I had to screw the collimation assembly in very very far.

You can see the separation in the attached picture.

At least you've got some room there. I have to remove the whole thing to get "close" with my Tokina 11-16mm. I've got the old unit. I'm hoping I can fedex it back shortly.

I guess it's my turn to ask again.

I guess it's my turn to ask again.

Tap, tap. tap... is this thing on?

Any news...? :waaa:

Okay, don't use infinity as a reference. I was originally using infinity and it doesn't work right. Put something close (a few feet away), focus, zoom, make sure it's still in focus. The outer ring is still away from the camera body, but not by as much.

Birger Mount hire needed soon in London for Spain test shoot

Birger Mount hire needed soon in London for Spain test shoot

Hi I'm looking to hire a Birger mount for a week either next week or early April for a test shoot in Spain, although I live and am based in London UK. I have a dumb Alesniak/Wicked Circuits mount lined up, but would prefer a smart mount (if the price is right) to avoid awkward iris changing.

Anyone already got a mount in London willing to hire it out? I'm a BBC video engineer and certified by Birger to install my own mount when it finally delivers, so I'll take good care of it.

Just starting out as proper freelance, and my business insurance isn't sorted yet. If your own insurance will cover third party hires, then also willing to pay a bit more to be covered by it, if my own insurance doesn't come through in time.

Please PM, or email ecyyoung "at" yahoo.co.uk, or phone my mobile!

Jay, How Are The Video's Coming

Jay, How Are The Video's Coming

Ok, I'm busted..

Yeah, I am doing the Videos for the Birger Mount under a new show we have created called "Info-Tech".

I got the mount and wireless focus this morning. Did not have a lot of time to work with it, but during the time I did, I was simply amazed. Erik and Curt and team did a fantastic job.

There will most likely be three videos:
Installation
Collimation
Overview
(But not in that order)

Since you guys have been on here so long, I'll also spill a couple more beans. In the next few weeks you can expect videos on equipment from:
Cineform
Element Technica
ViewFactor Studios

I'm also in talks with Arri to feature some of their gear as well. There are a few more companies, but they have not locked yet.. To be honest, we need to get these first 5 out the door before we look into any more.

We have things in place, and are supposed to shoot Thursday.. I will be hosting just as I did for ASLGear's video.

One small problem... As of this evening about three hours ago... I lost my voice (Erik's reading this and saying WTF!?)

Wish me luck that I can get it back in 24 hours!

Jay

Good Morning Jay,

Just wondering how the videos were coming along...

Good Morning Jay,

Good morning Frazier,

The videos are doing very well. Eric's videos are actually made up of a 3 part series.

Overview (We talk about it, and show you basics on how it works)
Installation ( How to uninstall the RED Pl Mount, and Install the Birger mount)
Setup and Collimation (Picks up where setup leaves off, configure RED, configure Birger, Collimate)

The Installation video is shot. The Collimation video is shot and we should have a rough edit by end of day today.

The overview video will be shot tomorrow.

Also in the pipe is a video for Element Technica which will also be shot tomorrow. And finally Cineform. Scheduled for tomorrow as well provided I get some needed info before then.

We also shot footage for ANOTHER show last week, but the peeps are not sure what they want done with it, so I imagine it will be shelved for a bit.

In a perfect world, I would like to see ALL these videos hit the streets by end of the week next week, but I don't mind telling you the workload has been huge. One or two shows is hard enough, but 5!?

I will also tell you that with the Overview, Installation and Setup/Collimation programs you should not need one page of instructions. They are extremely specific.

I have bugged Eric with Questions and disscusstions for what feels like forever. I really hope you guys find them useful.

Jay
