  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Wha'd ya get? Porn?
and
.... so at least something's moving!

Makes me go "Hmmm...." :)

Hey, I was looking at the tags for this thread and I don't know who tagged it as "godot", but that was pretty funny....
That would be Martinus Blaco

Frazier - very glad&happy for you.

For zoom you would need a motor of some sort. We'll be using the Viewfactor Inclino for that job since it should interface perfectly with the Birger Impero as well as its own.

Thanks for the reply.

Since you use Canon lenses, have you tried the Inclino on them? How do the gears go with Canon rings?

Seems like just swapping them out for new mounts would be quicker. I think the best policy for stuff like this is what Epson does with printers. They take your Credit Card number, ship you a new printer and you put your old printer in the box and ship it back within a week. Transaction done and the user is back up and running immediately.

If you get into sending stuff back, repairing it, send it out isn't easy to see all the things that can go wrong there? Best case scenario is probably a 5 day turnaround, but I bet reality is longer. Camera business people don't want to be down for 2 weeks.

The above policy will make your life and your customer's life a lot better and there's really no risk.

Great suggestion, Joel!

Erik, I think upgrading the mounts the "Epson way" is the best policy.

Still waiting for them like everyone else sadly, but i remain positive! :)

All warranty forms that were received as of 6pm this evening were processed and returned via the last email address we received a communication from (i.e. it might be your boss that got the reply). Only two people did not fill in a reason to be certified. Coincidentally only two people requesting to be certified were not.

Follow directions and good things happen.

Amy will be emailing the next group, and I will be finishing shipping to the current group, on Saturday.

Ken and I expect to nail down the next major software release on saturday afternoon. This finishes the off everything that we promised for features on the Canon, and then some. There will be a maintenance release in a couple of weeks to reduce the drift on some of the Tokina and Sigma lenses. Right now the servo routines are tuned for the Canon lenses, and we don;t want to mess with that just yet.

Sweet!

Sweet!

Just received my OK! Thanks Erik (and RED)! :w00t:

Hey, I know Birger:sorcerer:Engineering is a small shop but any word as to the shipping schedule?

Pushbutton & Lens Attachment Behavior

Pushbutton & Lens Attachment Behavior

[PLEASE REVIEW, WE ARE FREEZING LIBRARY 20A RELEASE WITHIN 24 HOURS]

We are probably going to freeze library 20a with the following pushbutton behavior. Please comment on this behavior, and any changes that you might want to see. Also, what threshold should we use for a long button press? I was thinking 2 seconds. There are three buttons {top, middle, bottom} and two button press durations {short, long}.

Top-Long: Move iris to wide open, initialize iris
Top-Short: Move iris incremental 1/4 stop open
Bottom-Short: Move iris incremental 1/4 stop closed
Bottom-Long: Move iris closed

Middle-Long: Do a complete focus calibration (5 to 11 seconds)
Middle-Short: Do a quick focus calibration* (1 to 2 seconds typical)

Top+Bottom: Initialize Iris (mainly for compatibility with current usage)
Top+Middle: toggle lens manual focus ring on/off (i.e. 85mm/1.2)
Bottom+Middle: "servo-safe-mode", eventually I will explain...

We are also going to change the behavior when a lens is removed and reattached. When the mount powers up with a lens already attached it will do nothing with the focus and iris settings, just in case power was lost inadvertantly, as is the current behavior. In this situation a top-long and a middle-long button press are needed to get the calibrations to happen on both axiis. If the lens is removed and the same/dfferent lens is reattached, automatically do a complete focus calibration, and return the iris to full open.

*Quick focus calibration simply finds the stops on the lens, and returns to the current knob position. This allows for eliminating any drift that might occur over time with less than fantastic lenses. L-series (red stripe) don't ever seem to drift, and most gold-stripe lenses don't seem to drift either. But some of the sigmas and tokinas still do, and we are going to be working on that shortly.

So now we should complain if we didn't get a response?

I didn't receive a reponse, though faxed it Jan 26th. Should I RE-FAX?

Got my install/warrantee confimation. Nice!
I think the behaviors sound easy enough. I'm looking at it from the teaching perspective.

I'm Approved! Yeehaa!
:)
As I understand it the mount automatically calibrates your just mounted lens, right?
If this is correct it's the best thought-out way to go IMO. If you do a run and gun doc-style shoot where stuff happens around you, out of your control, this will be a lifesaver!

Go ahead cut'n'print !!

Another nice run 'n gun feature would be to toggle autofocus on and off. Get a quick AF - then correct manually.

My new Canon 5D II has this. No more taking your eye off the viewfinder to locate the switch on the lens.
