  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Actually the situation is a bit more complicated than just a donation. The funding was from a federal grant and that grant has several 'gottchas'. One of which is a performance report due in a week or so. If the funded project/equipment is not in use as shown in the grant, they can ask for their $56k back AND cut of all access to future grants. For us and the academic world, this would be like touching the third rail. We have lots of Nikon glass here... but as Kyle mentioned, $500 is not in the cards to get a mount.

David, I will PM you on the mount. Mucho appreciated. And Paolo, I agree... 2 doesn't make a wave or ripple. Kyle and I should expect, at that rate, to see our mounts in 2010 sometime I would think.

Perhaps a positive attitude might be the way to go here. Something tells me that Erik is also aware that 2 mounts shipped won't cut it.

Do you suppose, and I'm just spitballing here, that he is already ramping up production since the mounts are now moving?

(Yes.. I am being sarcastic)

Jay

I did not finish the approvals this evening. PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME YET IF I GOT YOURS. I will resume tomorrow. Feel free to ask me the question once I post that all have been processed.

...and I just got my approval from ERIK :mail1: .... so at least something's moving!

Canon lens

Hi!
Thanks to Paul Leeming for his pictures, it's always nice to have something to see!

I'm sorry, I didn't read the whole thread and maybe the answer is in it but... I understand I could control the Focus and Iris of my Canon lens with a Birger mount and Imperio Remote. What about the Zoom??

For zoom you would need a motor of some sort. We'll be using the Viewfactor Inclino for that job since it should interface perfectly with the Birger Impero as well as its own.

HTH and thanks for the compliment!

Paul

Erik, please pardon me if this has been answered already, but those of us who received and installed the 'thicker' mounts, before all the warranty mess hit the fan, and have notified RED HQ of our installations... do we need to submit our approval paperwork, or will you just send us the new mounts when the knobs are ready?

It would probably be a good idea to get that form in to us, so we have all of the information in one place.

will you just send us the new mounts when the knobs are ready?

Your mount will have to come back and have a few pieces replaced to magically transform into a new one. We will email you for this, as soon as your knob is available.

I played with the Imperos yesterday, and I must say, Curt did a fantastic job with this. There are a few minor details that he will address in the software, and we need to test the ability of our PC and MAC applications to update an Impero's software through the lens mount that is plugged into.... but it feels like a production ready product to me.

Birger Mount Is Fantastic!

Birger Mount Is Fantastic!

Having great fun here in the Keys Erik with my mount...

Love it, working great. I've tried it with several lenses, Zeiss 50mm 1.4, Canon 16-35mm 2.8, Canon 70-200 2.8, Sigma 50mm Macro 2.8, and for kicks put on my Canon 15mm 2.8 full frame fisheye which is surprising me.

Everythings ok here. Very happy with your mount. Still just getting the feel of it, shooting different resolutions and testing out the kit. Will take some images soon and post them up.

Best,

Seems like just swapping them out for new mounts would be quicker. I think the best policy for stuff like this is what Epson does with printers. They take your Credit Card number, ship you a new printer and you put your old printer in the box and ship it back within a week. Transaction done and the user is back up and running immediately.

If you get into sending stuff back, repairing it, send it out isn't easy to see all the things that can go wrong there? Best case scenario is probably a 5 day turnaround, but I bet reality is longer. Camera business people don't want to be down for 2 weeks.

The above policy will make your life and your customer's life a lot better and there's really no risk.

Can Impero do more than iris, focus? Can I program it to have different focus stops? Can it our will it in the future start and stop rec on the camera?

I don't really mind, since my number recently came up for the audio upgrade anyway, but I see your point.

Erik, did you guys ever figure out what might have been causing my electronic problems? I only ever got the mount aperture buttons to work a handful of times. If it remains a mystery, and is not something addressed by the hardware update, I think I might prefer a different mount entirely. :)
