  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Can't say that I like the sound of this.

No updates from Andy either.

And P+S has also gone dark.

Either something big is happening behind the scenes, or the future is Nikon...

I actually thought Nikon too... it's getting soooo long now. My red one just sitting there. I'm thinking of biting the bullet somehow or robbing a bank for Red's 18-85 (is this readily available now?).

It would be nice for something to happen behind the scenes ONLY if Red is involved... but if it did happen, my guess is that it would tack on even more time.

Well, the last period of Erik's silence ended to a bunch of shipped mounts. That's my hypothesis.

But, on the other hand, Jim said that they have reacted to the wishlist and many have requested for Canon, Nikon etc. mounts on Epic and Scarlet. So, who knows .... :-)

Interesting to see whether the mount arrives before this thread reaches 300.000 visits.

Just got into work (Thurs morning here) and have a (very short) email from Amy :w00t: and a Fedex shipping notice.....
they are alive and working! Have faith....
Chris

Nicely done. Very pretty.

It's a good thing you didn't read the other thread around here where people are saying you can't reliably shoot SLR lenses. And focusing while the camera is moving? Out of the question. :usd:

That's actually a complete mis-reading of the thread, ahhh but who's paying attention?:matrix:

Jim's claim that the Nov. 13th announcement will exceed our wildest dreams would have to include something in the way of a universal lens mount that is easily obtained, doesn't produce ulcers or angst, or threaten to void the warranty on the buy side. Of course, that degree of universality would simply meet our thwarted expectations, rather than exceed our wildest dreams...unless, of course, the new-generation mount landed on a SCARLET, that would make loads of people dance in the streets.

He did drop a mysterious hint once about an ET Canon mount that then mysteriously went away, so if they are developing a new mount, I am betting on ET's involvement.

The results coming out of Erik's mount seem to be very good, indeed.

You can't manually focus that lens? That's bizarre. It would be cool if you noted which lenses seem to calibrate focus when the middle Birger button is pushed. Thanks for the list!

I updated the list.

Almost forgot to ask! When did you order your mount, CWS?
107.280225 I think 1dog had me somewhere around 50 something on his list.... forget how far back those posts were.
Mind you, I now expect the camera recall for the i-pins and audio adjustment to arrive the same day the mount does...
cheers
Chris

Hey . . . I ordered mine two days before you and I didn't get no stinkin' email from Amy, Eric or any other Birger person.

For anyone who's interested, we got our mount on Oct 4th, and by the 8th we were shooting a little short for twlilightfest over at DVXuser.

It's up for viewing now (same username as on here) and was shot entirly with canon lenses and the birger mount.

Update!

Update!

I just got off the phone with Erik. He said there are quite a few mounts going out today, and that they will be rolling out even more over the next couple of days.

He sounded like he was in good spirits and asked me to relay the message that he will be giving an update as soon as possible, and to be patient and let them focus on getting mounts out until then. He did also mention that things are going well with fixing lens support for lenses such as the 85mm 1.2. He also said that the mac application is now fully functional, and working better than the original PC version. Exciting stuff! Hang in there everybody!

What does the Mac application do? I think I read something about a collimation feature.

Jim wasn't in the thread I'm referring to. There are some PL mount guys that continually argue that SLR lenses aren't practical to be used in professional productions. I think their definition of "pro" somehow includes PL in the definition. My definition of "pro" is anything that looks professionally done regardless of the gear used.

Woohoo!

Thanks Harmonica! :)
