  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

There are a few customers left that have received their "shipping" emails, but not yet received a tracking number. We expect to catch up on these thursday and friday.

By "shipping" emails does that mean the one that I got on August 2nd that stated: "Your shipment of the following items has been scheduled for the period of 5 August through 13 August 2008" and asked for payment of the remaining balance, which I paid on August 4th?

I got my shipping notice October 1st: "Your shipment of the following items has been scheduled for the period of 2 October through 8 October 2008"

If they catch up Thursday and Friday for the months of Aug - October, I guess a huge batch is going out? :)

Without pissing anyone off or annoying you more than (some of ya) already seem… what’s the Birger mount cost? I’ll call direct tomorrow to get a deposit in, but somewhere in these 393 pages of chaos is the pricing and that may have changed anyway. Feels like I am cutting the lunch line but it is 2:00 here in Boston and I really do want to try and get a deposit in ASAP.

Besides… I’ll let you have my RED T-Shirt…. when it ships…. lol

Thanks loads,
Billy

yup.. dead link. I DID check that at least and the first several pages.

Oh. Sorry about that!

Erik, you got a dead link to your order form!

I think the mount, + knob, +wireless controller is somewhere between $1500 and $2000. Not sure what the exaxt number is currently.

Is there a newer PDF of the installation guide available somewhere? I have the one dated 28 July....

Also is there a simple collimation guide to follow, with pictures? Our mount has arrived in the office today but I'm not there and haven't opened the package to see if there's paper instructions enclosed.

I'll basically be getting camera and mount together just before a job requiring it, so I'm trying to minimise the time it'll take me to understand and set it up before we have to shoot with it in anger! :)

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hey, and thanks to the people that have PM'd me.

Erik has said that your list is grossly inacurate, but accurate or not, I like it. One thing you can do to make it more accurate is to fix the date and time of my order, which will move a few people up. I pm'ed you my order number a few weeks ago.

Paul,

Unless the shipping content is any different now, the paperwork enclosed is the same as the on-line PDF.
Collimation is really very simple. The one thing that helped me nail it was to use a fast lens ... I used a manual Nikon 50mm/1.2 (with adapter) and it took me 10 mins max to do it. I use this lens as my reference since infinity is a dead stop (and factory checked), rather than EF lenses which can go 'past' infinity.

I have no idea how the forthcoming software is supposed to help ? I guess we will all find out soon enough :umm:

Cheers

That's an interesting and good tip. Any other tips for people who don't have the Nikon 50mm? Would a manual Canon 50mm from an old AE1 do the same thing?

Peter Majtan and OneCam, I've added you to the list. There are more people coming out of the wood work saying that they have received there mount and this is the first I've heard that they actually ordered.

Randall, I share this mount with Ketch Rossi - it was him who ordered it - just to clear this up... :)

Yeah, I think this one is sort of Erik's own undoing in a way. He talked about misinformation floating around this thread (he was referring to other information at the time), and he knows about this list, but he won't post an accurate one.

So, of course, that's what we're going to refer to because that's all we have.

Sometimes it feels like we're standing in line with those little numbered tickets that you pull from a ticket dispenser and we find out the numbers are wrong. And to make matters worse, we can't even see what number the counter is displaying on the wall.

Hey guys and gals, I know the list isn't accurate. I am not a brain surgeon :nerd: but I know...

I just wanted to find out when I am going to get my mount.:help: Plan around it, know when I might budget in the purchase of some lenses. I've got my RED,:umm: and waiting for either Andy's mount, The Birger Mount or the RED 18-80mm. So for now I will search for an extremely cheap rental of maybe Super16 lenses so I can get to know the camera.

I've learned some things take time. I just like to have an idea of how much time and I know that is reasonable.

It appears like Erik may be providing a shipping schedule in the next few weeks and that will be good:) .

I am sure Erik won't say much about the list because it doesn't make him look good. If he says it isn't accurate but doesn't have any other more accurate information to offer.

The easy part if finding the mistakes, the hard part is creating a solution.

Thanks David, sadly the fastest real lens I have is the EF-S 17-55 f2.8. I've got the Nifty Fifty EF 50mm MkII f1.8 but I'm not sure that's the best lens to collimate with.... :) The job needs my Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens set to infinity focus only so I guess for the first job at least, as long as I see it's sharp then I can take more time to adjust further after it's done and I have more time to tinker.

Cheers,

Paul

I don't think Erik could post such a list, for the sake of confidentiality, if at all legal. I for one wouldn't like a manufacturer to post the fact that I've order with them on a public site. Even thought I gave my name to 1Dog's list.

Dominique, I can see how I didn't explain myself properly. When I say LIST, I automatically think of what RED does with posting serial numbers. This is what I meant. Erik could simply make a list that said for example:
107.261601 to 107.302459 Shipping OCT
108.01..... to 108.30... Shipping NOV

I think that is clear, isn't it?

If someone doesn't want me to post their name but only their serial number just let me know.

This also goes for when you receive it. If you don't want your name posted I can post just your serial number and when you received it.
