  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

So at what point can we assume that our order was not received or processed? Erik, can you give us a drop dead date, so that those of us whose orders have never been processed can know this with a degree of certainty?

I will post that all orders have been confrimed. It will probably be some time tomorrow morning. We still expect to wrap up going through all of the inbound communications today.

That would be helpful, Erik, thank you.

Just a suggestion -- maybe start a new thread when you do this...this one is impossibly hard to sift through, and it would be good to see your statement that all orders are confirmed at the top of the thread or in the headline.

So if I don't get an email from you by tomorrow, and I know I faxed in an order, then I should contact you and send you my fax receipt so I can get back in line in the correct order? Hopefully this won't even be an issue.

Great list of lens information resources

While waiting for the Birger mount, one may find this http://software.canon-europe.com/files/documents/EF_Lens_Work_Book_10_EN.pdf interesting (...)

Awesome find, thanks.

I played with the URL and there are some more interesting papers on the Canon website:

For those who are english-language-challenged, you can replace the "_EN" at the end of each file name with "_DE" to get a German version. "_FR" gets you french, "_IT" the language of Berlusconi land, "_ES" in spanish.

Enjoy, digest, learn. Use the waiting time ;)

All emails / faxes / etc are processed and in the system. We will email everybody on friday.

The collimation application rocks. It only runs on the PC right now. We might have cross-platform (i.e. Mac) support sooner than I had initially thought.

Good new! I'm really looking forward to getting this!

Also, Mac only and no plans on buying a PC. Please make a Mac version of the app. THANKS!

Forget Mac, get that app up and running for Linux!

  • Collimation application requires a computer ?
  • Is there a one-pager that describes the process (I guess it will be included with the mount) ?
  • What is the physical connection requirement on the PC (and later Mac, Linux or whatever) ? RS232, USB, or ... ?

Friday !!! ... that will be today (much later of those of us in the Europe).

Okay, everyone, settle down. Let's wait till those emails actually arrive before celebrating. :)

Collimation...

Collimation...

The application was prototyped in .NET on the PC. This is *supposed* to run on the Mac and Linux, with the right runtime environment installed. The new Apple store in Boston is on my walk to work... bought a Mini to test this out. If anybody has been through this before drop me an email describing the pain involved.

We are supporting collimation with a bunch of lenses. Grabbing data to build the the many more of the statistical models today. Look at all that glass. We will also support the 17-55mm f/2.8, just don't have that lens here today. Does anybody not have one of the lenses pictured, and want to propose another relatively wide angle, constant aperture zoom manufactured by Canon that we might want to add to the list of lenses supported for collimation?

eric,

it's good to see you just might be coming out of the weeds on this thing. congrats!

After looking at the list of Canon zooms the 24-105mm f/4 L seems like one more you might want to support.
