Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Lens support

Lens support

Doug Underdahl showed a very nice little lens support prototype at the REDUSER party that was easy to miss with all else going on. I think if you contact him http://www.longvalleyequip.com it might help to get him motivated to actually build it.

The simplest solution would be to to go to your local metal working engineer and get them to build you a support that utilises those support rails that run under you camera!

The screw thread on most longer or heavier lenses is a bog standard Whitworth thread that any engineer worth there salt can knock up for a lens support in minutes.

If you really wanted to go to town one could put a quick release plate on the lens and the support system making speedy lens changing possible.

But for whatever's sake don't just rely on the bayonet mount to take the full weight of the lens

I think in English that would be a 1/4"-20 threaded hole. I think part of it was aluminium.

Doug's support would attach to the rails or a simple extended plate. The nice thing is it had a gizmo that made it really easy to adjust the height for different lenses. It is a simple gizmo but it was pretty slick and I will be ordering one even though I have a complete machine shop including CNC.

I spoke to Erik today and he says the first thirty are shipping next week. I'll leave that open to your own interpretation.

DJ.... do you know if those first 30 have been contacted? anyone in the top 30 that would be willing to doing a trade for mine? I put in my reservation that first week. Dec 5 th I think. no email confirm yet.

I need to take the RED to Israel.

anyone willing to do this?

Mike, he didn't say whether they've been contacted or not. I sure hope so. For what it's worth, I'm #140 in line and he told me to expect mine in three weeks. I couldn't tell you exactly which day it was, but I put in my reservation at the end of November.

I'd say that if anyone has been notified, it would be Aquavideo. Aqua? You there?

Yeah, three more weeks for a November reservation? I think my proverbial camel's back just broke. Wonder how fast I could get a Nikon mount...

While the Birger EF-mount is pending installed the Nikon mount and have been testing the camera with Nikkor lenses. Have to say, it's amazing what one can do with SLR lenses. Here's an Windows media file example shot with an old AF-S Nikkor 80-200mm 1:2.8D lens: www.luontovideo.net/Spruce-WMV.wmv.

The mechanics of this lens is bit worn, but still, despite of the shallow DOF focusing was/is not as difficult as one may think by reading posts on different threads. Nevertheless, Erik's solution with the knob will be just great. That will be quite a tool and make focusing as convinient as it ever can be.

Ooof. I just ordered mine in April (still no charge or confirmation). So we would be expecting the late summer or fall to get the mount?

remote release

When the Birger mount actually starts shipping - 'next week' ..

Does it include a remote release function?

Will the Blue tooth functionality also be available 'next week' or will that be for a subsequent week ?

was the 3 weeks thing something from back in November? or like in the last few days?

today has been May 11th. are we 3-5 days from shipping? receiving? paying in full? any info would be appreciated.

Hello,

I believe the fellow who ordered in November is getting his mount in three weeks. Therefore, those who ordered recently are probably going to see a long wait.

Bummer! Looks like quite a nice device.

Unlike a product like the Red One (where you have to worry about sensor yields, etc.) I wouldn't imagine the Birger mount would have much potential for serious component availability problems, once the initial issues are straightened out. In other words, once the thing finally starts shipping, it might not take very long at all to fill all the outstanding orders.
