  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

No confirmation and no charge for me either, but I'm not too worried. I'd rather they keep concentrated on building it so as to have it available when my camera ships.
 
I'm not opposed to a slipping shipment date... But, I am becoming seriously concerned by the continued statements that Eric has made about when things will be done, without a follow-up when things go wrong.

I'm trying to be supportive, and I'm a patient man-- I think most of us here are (some of us have been waiting almost 2 years for a camera). And while I know you're busy, I feel as though you have an obligation to us, as customers (who have submitted orders with credit card information, etc) to keep us informed. I don't care if you can't or don't want to say what the delay is, but some kind of acknowledgment is only appropriate.

Unfortunately, I think the RED environment has made many of us far to complacent with the idea of delays, and that has fostered a certain level of expectation for lack of information. On the contrary, engineering delays are acceptable, failure to communicate those delays is not. Whether that communication is simply "Sorry guys, I know I said it would happen today, but it's taking longer than expected, I'll get back to you in a few more days." or a complex dissertation on your self-loathing for not meeting your own deadlines and expections (ie Jim's famous post), is still better than silence.

i'm getting my red next month... i don't have anything but canons and sigmas. so basically even if i did get a camera i wont be able to shoot without putting some glass on.

Should i get some pl mount lenses? dunno.. why should i waste my money.. i might get the birger mount next month too since i've already put lots of dough on the 12 lenses i already have?!

quick q? i know i wont be able to focus to infinity.. but is there a canon ef to pl mount?

I don't have my camera or my Birger mount yet but neither do most of us on this thread (the camera at least) and I for one think we are being a little fanatical. The guy said Friday and at 9 that morning people were already complaining. I know he has been late before but we can chill a little longer. I'm more worried about the mount working then the minute he tells us. Birger should obviously step up and get some more employees for customer service, but hey, some guys are techies and some are smooth talkers and we can't always get which one or both that we want. I just think we are generally breeding disdain and resentment. I know as a business man and artist I work hardest for those who give me a chance to work and appreciate my efforts and don't hassle me. If your cool to me you'll always get my best. If you continually hassle me you might not. I look at reduser (and this thread) every single day but I still think we might be facilitating backlash in the form of "man, I wish I would've never even started this project if I'd have known it would've been such a hassle I would have just sold the idea/knowledge to someone else. I can't wait until they all get off my back." Tell me if I'm completely wrong but I don't think any of us like to feel like we're constantly behind the 8 ball. http://www.reduser.net/forum/images/redsmilies/biggrin.gif

I doubt that Erik is getting his feelings hurt by reading some of the criticisms. This is a new venture for Birger, they already have a business model with other costumers paying the bills. There have been changes to the Red and everyone knows this and it has caused a delay for Birger. Also, did everyone see the poll? This was to make sure that going to the submount was going to be the right move. I know everyone wants their mount to start working. Just know that Birger is doing the best they can and it will be ready as soon as they can possibly get it done. Erik has already assured everyone that everyone's orders are safe even though not everyone has conformation yet. Patience.
 
I'm counting on the Birger/Canon big-time! I sure hope it's everything it's been cracked up to be.

And, if I understand properly, the Birger/Canon will also have a module which will allow me to use my F-mount Nikon lenses, too! Is that really correct?

What an amazing device. . . now, if the focus pulls are really clean and tight, it will be a dream come true!

Since my camera will be on its way here soon, I'm really pumped!

But really, the only thing I can do is be patient and know that a solution will soon be here that will completely ROCK!

Erik, I hope you read this! :) Godspeed. Can't wait to blow the skeptics away with Birger / Canon footage (and eventually a feature shot entirely with the Birger / Canon solution)!

Agreed. To each his own. Let him focused in his own work. In our behalf.
 
Ordered on 27th Nov., credit card charged on 16th Jan., so handling the reservations is in progress. Eric is focused on his engineering work and not on the administration, that's good!

AquaVideoRed206, Romania is not too far from Switzerland, he should not feel safe, I will look for him. Perhaps there's a Canon mount attached to your camera, that would mean one mount for all of us. :)

You know guys,

It's no secret that there are a LOT of REDs out the door in the last couple days, and they will begin showing up tomorrow! I for one purchased the Birger mount with the idea of actually USING it.

I was cool with Erik's spotty communication and missed deadlines when the camera was sitting on the store's shelf, both hassle and PAYMENT free. But now it's a new story. The camera will arrive, and it will need to shoot to pay for itself. I, like many others did NOT buy a PL Mount lens because we make the decision to go with Birger.

As things are right now, my mother's GLASSES would be a better solution than the birger mount for the simple fact her glasses are HERE.

I want to use this product, but without a clear idea of it's arrival I may have to turn in my reservation and look for something else. I am sure I won't be the only one. I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS

For God's sake Erik, you can't JUST be an engineer, you have to get someone on customer service! Go get some high school kid that can stand behind you while you tell him what to type.

I know you think I am being bitchy and impatient, but I have no doubt if the tables were turned, you would have the same issues.

We need to know what's going on. You said Friday, and that was 5 days ago. And now with a LOT of REDs hitting the door, things are going to get far more stressful than they were.

I could rent a lens, but I don't even know how long I am renting it for!!

Ordered mine on December 3rd, I talked to Erik that day about extending the deal. He told me he had received the order, and would have conformation to me tomorrow or the next day. That was 7 weeks ago, no word & no credit card charge. I'm tempted to call him. I'm not getting my camera until end of March or April (baring any more delays), but it sure would be nice to know if I need to budget for PL glass. I'm not trying to rush him, but a conformation sure would be nice. Don't know if he misplaced the FAX or what else could have happened. Also, I don't like me CC # floating around. :unsure: :unsure:

what legitimate business takes credit card numbers, but doesn't issue either receipt or confirmation? that's the crux issue.

product delays are normal, but this is a really shaky and substandard business practice.
