  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Erik, you are not expected to take the best photos, or have the best camera there to do it, all we want are the Best mounts!:) Then we can go and take the best pics with it!

How do we know where we are on the delivery list? I faxed my order in five minutes (literally!) before the end of the very first reservation deadline.

I want/need this mount for an upcoming shoot!

The bad news... only minor. One surface that should have been scotchbrited (how we get that silky finish, oops let out a secret) wasn't, so these parts are functional but not cosmetically perfect.

Is the properly surfaced version going to be available soon? How soon until the release quantities can get into the hundreds?

Quick question about Iris. As there are no markings on the Canon lenses for aperture, will there be a place on your remote control that reads out this figure? or will it appear in the Red EVF/LCD display (or do they have to enable that i feature first?).

Once one of these is fully supported in camera, the information will be displayed in the same way in the EVF, LCD and/or metadata tagged to the frame. I've been wondering the same thing. For focus distance as well. Do we just have the little focus distance "window" on the top of EF lenses, or will there be a distance readout somewhere.

Collimation...

Collimation...

Another part arrived. The last parts should come by courier in a couple of hours.

Attached is a picture of the collimation mechanism. The numbered aluminum ring rotates, and the gold numbers stay stationary. The picture reads 23/100 mm. This is a relative distance. When collimating, our software will tell you how much to add or subtract to get closer to right on. Dial in the new number. Repeat until the software reports zero. Generally two or three iterations is sufficient.

Using a different lens mount? or using the same mnount on a different camera? Just dial in the number you wrote down - and you don't need to recollimate. Mount changes with four/eight screws, and the setting of a dial. A few minutes - tops.

I just joined this thread, so sorry if its a repeat question. I ordered the Birger/Nikon mount as soon as It was offered. I got an e-mail reply saying I'd paid the deposit, but nothing since then. My Red is due in May, so I'm wondering how do I find out where i am on the list of Birger Mount recipients. Would someone ind aiming me in the right direction. Thanks.

im getting excited! ive had my red here a few months - finally it's about to be unleashed :-)
 
Erik, that's awesome-looking engineering.

I have a feeling your mount and programmable control surface combo is going to be the most desired and valuable accessory for the RED camera. I, for one, would not be getting the camera if it weren't for the promise of intelligent SLR lens functionality that came when your mount was announced. It really made the RED package doable for me financially.

"Thank you" just doesn't seem sufficient. Hope you sell a ton of them and get very rich.:)
