Birger Lens Mount Reservations

I hope someone can help me out here....

I just attempted to update the firmware on my birger mount via BEI/bluetooth with a MBP.... the update stalled midway, and now the BEI can't find the mount and the mount will not respond to anything.... won't calibrate or do anything.

I've called and emailed birger without any answer or call/email back.

Christopher:

Don't know where you are, but here in the states it is a holiday for most businesses except malls/stores, so may not be easy to get in touch with birger until monday.

Assume you already rang and emailed Erik Birger direct and left a message about your situation?!

Are you able to detect the Birger Mount with "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" if you go through the "Set up Bluetooth Device" menu from the Mac Bluetooth menu?

If so, you may be able to use ZTerm to manually connect to the mount, but bear in mind this may make the mount even more bricked than it is, and unable to be repaired, and I have no knowledge if it would even be possible to use this method to reflash the Birger Mount firmware as it it only mentioned in relation to manually updating the Impero via the Birger mount.

Great to hear you got it sorted!

Effective immediately, RED will no longer allow customers to remove the RED lens mount and replace it with the Birger lens mount on the RED ONE camera. Any RED customer that modifies the RED ONE camera with the Birger lens mount will void the camera warranty. For customers that have already modified their camera with the Birger lens mount and have submitted a notification form that has been sent to RED, both in accordance with the RED/Birger Statement of Warranty, the camera warranty will not be effected.

Hi Jarrad...I bought my Birger mount before this cut off time, and signed the warranty papers...however...I do not collect my Red Camera until the 5th of December. Does this mean I cannot install the Birger mount without voiding the warranty and upgrade path?? And why is the Birger system suddenly not supported anymore? Are there problems that I should know about??

Control Iris w/o impero ?

Control Iris w/o impero ?

How do I control aperture on the Birger mount if I don't want to buy the Impero? Do the buttons on the side of the mount control the exposure?

I had the same question actually, because I have tried; they do not seem to work unless first calibrated with the Impero controller.

would like to be able to use without controller in certain circumstances. Is this doable?

We do this all the time and used the mount for quite a while before getting our Imperos. Just put the lens on then hit the top and bottom buttons simultaneously to have the mount calibrate the lens. After that you just use the top and bottom buttons singularly to adjust aperture. Let us know if you still have any trouble.

Love the Birger!

Walter

Impero focus drifting

Impero focus drifting

Hello,

Are other people still having trouble with focus marks on the Impero drifting? I haven't had much luck with marks on the Impero staying true over the course of multiple takes.

I have been using it primarily with my Canon 24-70L but having trouble also with Tonika 11-16 and Canon 70-200 (while in alternative focus mode).

Also, Jon to answer your question about needing the Impero to calibrate lens for iris control - press and hold the top button (iris open) until the iris goes to its maximum aperature. The iris is now calibrated and you will have control of it via the buttons.

I think that if it wasn't registered, you might be out of options. Althought, if at the time you bought, it was said that there was no problem, you might have a case here...

If we dont have that piece of paper with your name at RED your warranty will be void if you install the mount.

Don't worry there isn't some new technical issue that has ended the warranty agreement ( at least that we know about ), the mount at this time is just alot different than the mount it was when we made the agreement and politically there just seemed to always be friction so it wasn't worth us putting forth the continued effort to support.
