  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

But, does the Birger void the sensor upgrade? I have no plans to buy Epic or Scarlet since I have invested heavily in underwater housings that (I assume) will not accommodate the new cameras anyway.
 
guessing ? i would say no - it should not void a sensor upgrade ..you PAY $$ for the sensor upgrade ... if the Birger Mt causes any problems for the upgrade = you just pay more $$ ....
you'll probably need to send it in for the upgrade with the PL mt on the camera ...

when you trade in a Redone on Epic, Red is giving you a trade in Value of 17,500 ..

you don't trade in a Redone on a Scarlet=you just get a discount = i doubt if Red ever will look at your Redone when you buy a Scarlet ??

But if you do stage 2 you keep your RED so you aren't getting any trade in - you get a discount and RED never gets or sees your RED or has to worry about warranty or anything else with your RED. This is the part that is hard to understand because it is hard to see what difference it makes to RED what you do with the R1 if it is already out of warranty and you are keeping it anyway.

Build 21.4.1 & Birger mount

Anybody else found an issue with the latest release build (seems to be due to the Birger being plugged in at boot time) ? [Build 21 (v21.4.1)]

Essentially during the boot time the camera starts ok, then looses the image (ie: goes to black).

My only work around at the moment is to ensure the Birger mount is not plugged in during R1 boot, and once R1 up-and-running, plug in Birger (which then causes R1 to start recording ... and old problem resurfacing again).

Arghhh ... never seems to be a 'problem free relationship' :emote_headwall:
 
So, is someone working on some type of F stop led display which direct connects to the mount, so we can leave the ipin cable disconnected?

Wish I had a brain sufficient to do it, but I'd definitely buy it!

No, I have not observed this. I just upgraded camera to 21.4.1. It boots up OK even with the Birger plugged in when the camera is powered on. Sometimes lens data disappears and I have to reboot to get it back, but in my experience this has always been the case.

I also unplugged the Birger and plugged it back in with camera still running. The camera did not start recording.

I think upgrading RED ONE firmware might reset GPIO settings and such. You might want to double check all that.

Also to David Nardini... what firmware version are you running on the Birger? That could be the difference.

Well there you go ... updating to latest (library and Imperio) and all is much better = THANKS for reminding me ... Cheers.

I guess it always pays to check (as releases from Birger are broadcast by telepathic means) !
 
Despite the recent disagreements, I still hold out for a more amicable result between RED and Birger.

I simply would not be able to function with my RED without it. Birger really went far in getting things to work on their end and RED seemed to offer enough assistance to help get things done. Great things resulted from this cooperation. With the Impero in the mix , you have a camera/lens/controller system that like the RED ONE no one thought could be possible 5 years ago.

This remains a very effective combination that gives a lot of capability for a relatively low cost. Even with the more othodox film vets of the world, this combo never ceases to generate surprise and excitement.

I really hope things can improve here in the new year.

The B/I setup is what really allowed me to get/setup a R1. Of course this was (fortunately) several months ago:) so I am in the clear..... AFAIK that is......

There was no way I could have budgeted for PL glass @ 4K, both in resolution and $$ :)

Me, too. I've enjoyed my association with both companies and have a number of customers successfully using birger so it is frustrating to see this rift.
 
me three... I would not have purchased a RED if it were not for the ability to use all the wonderful, fast L glass I already had. I just love using my 24mm f1.4 L II wide open on my RED.

Maybe we should take a pole to show how much lower the RED sales would be if a EF mount did not exist?

I don't want cause any riffs.... or make Jarred think I'm a problem or anything.... but I just hate the situation we are in. And to be honest, I love using the impero with the RED so much I just don't ever want to go back to a traditional follow focus or completely mechanical focus and iris controls.

I get the feeling though that this is mute now.... with EPIC and SCARLET having EF mounts.... which my gut feeling tells me that this is the reason the Birger is left in the rain. But to be doubly honest.... my communications with Birger over the past months has not gone well. I'm aware that Erik has a small shop and a lot going on, but if he had someone ( even outsourced ) and the support was better maybe RED would have never pulled the plug on the relationship.

Hey Witszke dont worry.. Im not going to get mad at you for professing your love :). I know the mount was important for alot of people and that is why we really tried and made the warranty exception.

Scarlet and Epic having EF mounts is not the reason why.. at all, I promise you that. The second half of your paragraph there is pretty accurate though.
 
I absolutely love the combination of the One, the Birger, and the Impero, and I want all three companies realize how important their work is to so many of us, including me, personally. The ability use this gorgeous Canon glass and have a really great wireless follow-focus system is just amazing.

I second these calls for a fresh start in a new year. 2009 was the year of achievement. Perhaps 2010 can be the year of reconciliation.

It's just an amazing system.
