  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Appreciation...

Time for personal thanks... to all those helping in this forum generously for more than 4 years.

In my case ( to mention a few...):

Gunlik Gruven
Luca Imensi
Kaku Ito
David Mullen
Michael P
M Most
Hans-Georg Daun
Ian Bloom

And many others Thank you for your generosity.

And thanks to all RED team for their incredible help and support.

One thing that we haven't forgotten... the early adopters. We remember stuff like this. When we were a scam, there were a few that believed in us. That went a long way with me. You will always see a reference to those... how many companies even keep track of this stuff? Mark, Gibby, Cordell, Summers, Seymour and the rest... we remember.

We hope that we can earn a permanent place in this industry. If we do... we will bring along those that believed. And try to never let them down.

Jim

Right on. Thanks for everything you have given to the future of digital cinema.

Early adopters enable innovation, both those who buy and those who find other ways to be a part of the revolution.

This is what I'm talkin about! Well done RED team, well done! I'm puttin Scarlet to work the day she arrives in her new island home.

Thanks Jim. I've been there since 9am on that first NAB and have never looked back. I'm so very glad to be on this ride with you. I'm really looking forward to seeing you and the group again this NAB.

And yes, Brent and Kelly are rockstars :-)

Shawn... you are one of the ones that was there at NAB for the 1st presentation made by Frederic at 9am on the 1st day of NAB 2006? What an incredible ride it has been since. I remember you and your Dad coming to the 1st RED Day in Lake Forest. It was in the small warehouse with all the curtains separating the presentation from the engineering stations. I think we had the tent outside with all the food. I was upstairs with Jarred doing the last minute calibrations of the cameras before delivery. Black cardboard boxes with stickers we printed upstairs. History.

My dad was, I sent him to the booth because I had only gotten married a few weeks before and had no more vacation time left at my job. He listened to Frederick and pulled out the card and called me, I instantly told him I was in for half, the rest is history.

That 1st Red Day is etched into my brain. What an incredible day huh? :-)

Shawn, you are also the dude that walked into my studio (which was a nasty empty old laundry company back in 2008) with this weird fucking camera called a RED ONE with number #27 engraved on the side, (to shoot Matt Haley's "Safe") on Build 12 I believe...

When I saw just the "proxy" images, I HAD to have one... and when Jim announced the EPIC a couple months later, I HAD to have one and Donatello Bonato obliged allowing me to jump the line, little did I know how smart that move was...

Jim, I met you at the RIO REDUSER party when the RPP first premiered in the tent on the projector... EDIT: I also was the only person that clapped the first
time you guys announced that the RED REEL was actually displayed with the RED RAY! You had to say it again, before the room erupted in applause.

See you all at NAB!!

CONGRATULATIONS KELLY and BRENT!!!

Congratulations Brent and Kelly.

Tonight I'll single out Brent and Kelly, who are expecting their 1st very soon. God love them.

Brent and Kelly are more than amazing. RED has incredible technology - but the magic is some really amazing, dedicated and simply just wonderful people who work tirelessly for the company.

Not everyone will really understand the journey. What it means to have shared the dream, and see it come true. That dream that began long before the first NAB. I've tried to explain it to some, but they don't get it.

When I think of all the ridiculously hard work everyone at RED has put into that dream, its a wonder. I can't tell you how many times I've received emails from Team RED members, late at night, on weekends, even holidays.... It's incredible. And that includes Kelly, Brent, Jarred, Jim and others as well. To simply say thanks, is not enough.

Like a fool, I planed to fly in WED, that 1st NAB..... So I wasn't there in person, I had to dial that phone # for the floor 20 x, till finally @ 9:25AM I left a message... Then I called, and emailed and called again...... Finally, after what seemed a lifetime, @ 3:30 I received a return call..... #81 ( LOL I was sooooo bummed I didn't get a "low #"..... 8,000 RED ones latter. I guess I did okay;)

A few hours latter that eve, I received another phone call, it was Jim. He asked if anyone had gotten back to me yet? After what had to have been a brutally long day! We spoke for several minutes.... And at the end of the conversation, I said "Jim, if this is any indication of the level of customer service RED is going to provide, I have a feeling your new company is going to do very well!".

It's been said many times, because it's universally true for those of who've been in it, I'm grateful to have had a front row seat to the Phenomenon, RED DIGITAL CINEMA.

RED RULES, Pass it on!

I think we will need a book (with beautiful pics) telling us the whole RED Story.

Way back when there was the chance of making the $1000 deposit I just did not have cash, I did not even have the $1000 for the deposit, but I never lost hope. I worked, and worked, and saved up, until I had the cash to buy my RED, that took time, so much time that I ended up with RED #6340, it took 6339 RED's to be sold for me to have the cash to buy mine...and when I did, I had no cash left, but, this camera has generated so much work, that I have been able to start shooting with my old Nikon lenses, and from that I have now the full range of RED lenses, all primes and 2 Zooms. Now comes EPIC. I debated, should I go stage 3 and loose my RED or go stage 2 and keep it, and have the possibility of shooting with 2 cameras. Stage 2 won out. Soon lots of us will have 2, some more than 2 RED made cameras, yet, such a short time ago, many like me, could not even afford 1.
All this living in a country, Mozambique, which is one of the poorest in the word, and where the import tax I have to pay on all equipment is 42%...imagine, and the cost of shipping to Mozambique is so high....my RED equipment ends up costing about 50% more than what it costs in the USA...

We thank you Jim, and everyone that works at RED for everything...and hope to see you at NAB...if I find a way to get there...

what i regret is ...

what i regret is ...

the only thing i regret about red is, that i did not order earlier. i simply didn´t have the money at this time, so i am "only" number #2072...
i wanted to order much earlier, but some things doesn´t work sometimes as you want ...

now, we have 2011. i shot tons of footage with 2072, never had one issue.
next week our first theatre film starts in cinemas all over germany, shot 2008 with 2072 ... this film would not be done without the vision of red.
a 2nd theatre film followed... many big jobs, commercials. all done with red.
red pushed my company forward in quality and success. thanks for that.

as said, the only thing i regret is the fact, i did not order earlier ... so i am again in the middle of the waiting line for epic.
cant´t wait to shoot more succesful stuff for my company with epic.
i booked a flight to come from germany to NAB, but some private reasons do not allow me to come, so a big salute from the black forest, germany, to all at red digital cinema. hope to come 2012.

Jim and Red team,

This has been a marvelous ride...two revolutionary cameras in just three years
From "Scam" to the most sought after Digital Cinema cameras in the industry.

Thank you for building a team with passion, creativity and brilliance!

I can't wait to get my hands on the EPIC!

Dave

Totally. Red is a fascinating company and I imagine down the line it will be talked about and cited over and again in case studies and examples of winning strategy and innovation. But in terms of the story, I think (and hope) that this is at most just the end of the beginning, and there is a lot more to come...

What other camera company will meet with a bunch of strangers in a foreign country and let them play with the new camera before it is released? That is exactly what Ted did for us RedUsers in Istanbul. We aren't famous, wealthy, or close friends with anyone at Red. Most of us don't even own a Red One, but Ted took the time to reach out to us, because we share a common cause... We believe in RED. I'll never forget that :) Thanks.
