  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another update...

For those who are asking about Stage 3 announcements and money ... if Jim is saying delivery in July and August, I think we can expect at least 30 days notice. In other words, sometime in June and the need to put money down and have your R1 ready for trade in sometime in either June or July, depending on your original delivery date.

I'm guessing more info will be given at NAB, but more that all details for Stage 3 will be fully clarified 30-60 days from when the very first Stage 3 cameras are ready to ship. At that point we'll so know much more about accessories, package, procedure, etc.

Ahhhhh ... patience is tough with something so amazing, but a virtue :)

Thanks Jim,

Anthony

And they said the "Super Moon" would have little or no effect on earth.

The posts it caused Jim to make are defiantly forum shattering with his follow-up aftershock posts. This is very exiting!

Does this mean you'll have the EPIC-S brain and/or packages, locked off by NAB? :thumbup1:

And then the only other question that I would have is, before all EPIC-X's are shipped, will EPIC-S's be made in large quantities or will it have the same sort of ramp up that the EPIC-X's will have?

It's nice to hear things are still going in the right direction. Now I'm really hoping, or dare I say planning, to get my Epic-S by October...

First off, thank you Jim for the update. Even though the updates sometimes mean delays, we all appreciate the transparency and being kept in the loop. It does certainly help with production planning.

October release for the Epic-S would be awesome....but I wonder if it's realistic? I believe the last update was that was that Epic-S would begin production in May. If I'm reading correctly, now it looks like September is the plan. This is totally understandable, (we all know that things change, especially with the current tragedy in Japan) I'm just curious as to what that means for a realistic delivery date? October, November, or beginning of 2012? I have no idea what goes into manufacturing/assembling a camera like an Epic (or any camera for that matter). I just know how to shoot :smile5:.

I too plan on getting the Epic-S and would love nothing more than to be able to put down a deposit, or pay in full at NAB. I'm not sure if this info (ability to deposit) will be released before NAB, or if we have to wait until the show to find out. But I will be there, eager to see and hold one, and to put down a deposit if possible.

Thanks, Red Team, for everything you are doing. The future seems closer than ever.

Sorry to add another question, but have there been any thoughts on when the red one needs to be handed in for stage 3, meaning: will there be a long time gap in between sending the Red One and receiving the Epic? (because of possibly important work during august)
best regards,
Hans

Jim answered on that earlier; you'll get an email when your EPIC is ready to ship; you'll send your balance and your RED ONE and receive your EPIC as fast as shipping can turn it around. Fedex next day both ways, allow a day or two for processing, you shouldn't be without a camera for more than 3-4 days I'm betting.

This is RED remember: they will be (or certainly should be) sensitive to such issues; there's no excuse for a delay in fulfillment at that point because they don't ask for execution until your camera is ready to be shipped to you.

I'd have liked to keep the R1 until the EPIC is actually in my hands, but Jim said that was a logistical nightmare and yeah, I can see where he's coming from there. But I'm sure they'll make it fast.

Now, I wonder what will happen to all those R1 bodies? Will we see a big stock of cheap battle-tested R1 in the store I wonder?

Oh and Jim, thanks for being so responsive on this thread and providing such great information! Hope you're getting enough sleep!

Mike

Thanks the update. Appreciate it I'd love to know the answer on stage 3.5

Sounds like it will be shipped after summer :(

Where the heck did you hear that? Stop spreading FUD man. Why not just wait until NAB and hear what the update is then...

Ah! I remembered that the question had been asked before but I only remembered the "logistical nightmare" answer. Thanks for clarifying this to me! 3 to 4 days shouldn't be a problem, although I am not always in charge of date settings :).

Update appreciated...

Update appreciated...

Expect Stage 2 to be completed by June. Stage 3 to be completed by July/August. All orders at NAB to be completed by September.

Scarlet fixed updates at NAB.

Jim

Thanks for this message, I know things can change but to have an idea of when things might happen is good...I can plan having coin ready for you..

I can't make NAB this time but would think we'd be able to commit to Stage 3 online or by email during NAB or before.

Till then, shooting my RED One is just fine....exciting times...

Best,
Frazier

Do we have to be at NAB to order? I am usually demoing my software at the show, but I have a tumor in my foot and can't make it this year.

Any word on the Scarlet Interchangeable and the mini primes?

I think its pretty clear EPIC is the focus now... Jim has said, at least once to 2 dozen times the following regarding Scarlet"

1. That the Scarlet will BENEFIT from what they learn on EPIC
2. That the disaster in Japan affects Scarlet production more than Epic
3. That they are always late but that its so WORTH the wait.
4. That Scarlet would ship AFTER EPIC-X Stages and EPIC-S

From the above I think a Q3 to Q4 shipping reality... but since there are moving supply side targets... its tough to predict.. other than you can be sure it will be AFTER EPiC until Jim and co say otherwise.

NAB holds a BIG surprise... so maybe this will all change then... but for now. the above is whats been stated all over these boards.

That's the most authoritative answer I can recall seeing, modulo the possible impacts of Japan. Which seems to suggest they're on roughly the same schedule.

The only other thing we know for sure is that *EPIC-S* doesn't ship until EPIC-X stages & NAB orders are complete; I distinctly remember reading that. I don't see where you get point 4. above from; I don't recall ever seeing any suggestion that Scarlet wouldn't ship until after EPIC-S (or EPIC-X for that matter); Scarlet shares accessories but is otherwise a different beast, almost certainly a different production line, and is on its own schedule: 'end of summer'.

Right now it is impossible to predict dates on the removable lens Scarlet as there are so many variables in play and our team is focusing to work on resolving the logistics and shortages for Epic-X and Scarlet 8x. There are alot of "little" bits that come from Japan that have proven to be a bit of a shocker.. from the epoxy inside circuit boards to small components. Apart from prices of those parts doubling in price every few days, just getting them is going to be a constant battle.

We are doing our best to mitigate.. and we have found some creative ways to resolve, but right now its best to just keep your eye on here to see where we are, Jim is committed to letting you guys know when we know. Just please understand that since we are moving in realtime and posting updates in realtime, things can and likely will change as we move through the next month or two.

Jim has clearly said in at least two threads that the answer to your question is no, you don't have to be at NAB. On-line orders will also be accepted
