  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Great.

Just specifically curious about if there is a CTRL "Lemo or similar" port on the Raven body, like on the Epic/Weapon.
So now (just to be clear) talking about "base hardware interface".

There is no CTRL port on the Weapon. Where did you hear that??

You can only access that IO with a module.

I guess both networked and serial interfaces can be reached through a "multipin" on Raven, but that would need an extra module to reach them.
If question is vague... or unclear... then I guess it is. :)

Simply: Does Raven come with the "CTRL" and ethernet ports?

Smallest / slimmest way there as of today I think is the crl port on the jet pack. But possibly before somebody actually get this camera I think options will be plenty.

If you mean what IO is on the camera without ANY module attached?? That would be TWO LVD/EVF contact interfaces. That is IT.

You can not even power the camera without a module of some kind attached.

Question: Mark is it open whats actually comes out of the connectors of the back of weapon or is that just as closed of as for epic but now opened for a few.... i.e is there a diagram to what the connectors actually hold?

OK.

Sorry for lack of research...
Still I would have said to RED that a camera which is this tuned on being a remote head... And could fit into a lot of automatic workflows.... The lack of a control port... to me... seems like an almost not-so-good omission.

If it´s open to make modules then, somebody can solder together the gunleik module... housing a CTL only :)

Edit: But possibly it should have power as well. CTRL is nothing without it.

We want to hear now.

1. CTRL port.
2....

Sure. As if I have any impact.
But there is a basic list, and it's kinda "normal".

The ctrl and network ports are probably the extensions of "normal" as they in different ways give a two-way datapath.

I seriously am going to NY in two weeks, partly to meet Mark and discuss these things, if possible though.

My personal fav module would be a module kind of like the WD Dbox that only had the "module pin connectors" on both sides. And then preferably a chassi that could be extended in units of lets say 1.5 cm in length. Like an empty box on the back of the camera. Then I could play around. Stuff the thing with wireless video, power connectors, sound etc and put on basically what ever I wanted and just soldier things into it and close it up and screw it on and put a Vmount plate on the back if I felt like it.

I think such module could keep me happy for weeks :)

XLR, ctrl + network, sync-ports, dual SDI (With individual CDL's) and a 4k hdmi... All would be up there.
Power things are important, but after playing a bit with RED stuff, I am unsure if power is really a thing to ask for in that ecosystem.
Anyhow. I would very much like to meet Mark in NY in two weeks to get corrected and ask questions in these regards. The Raven looks fabulous.

i was wondering if i should jump on some accessories now (need write offs this year)
is the form factor the same as the epic dragons? asking because i want to start with a nice base plate situation, and i noticed on the epics on my job they have a little riser plate, then a sliding base plate. would the ones out now for dragon fit the raven perfectly?

Weapon upgraders are getting accessories bundled, plus another $5K accessory credit for stuff that they might not need/want in the first place. So you might see used/unopened accessories on the market for good prices. I and lots of others prefer longer lasting v-mount batteries instead of redvolts, so I expect to see those redvolt xl modules for sale.

Agree I think a few months from now the XL battery weapon battery module will sell for very little.

From Jarred: The new Outrigger Handle for DSMC2 style RED cameras (Weapon and Raven). He says it's "just one" of the new DSMC2 handles to come.
