Aeoncine has just released the details for their new rig. Looks like they also have a scarlet/epic top plate, which came as a surprise for me. Too far out of reach for me budget-wise, but worth dreaming about. All titanium??

(i am not affiliated with this company, just had been eyeballing their release for some time now)

Amazing SolidWorks 3D renderings!

. . . wake me up when they're shipping production units

Nice designs. Some of the pricing is mysterious, like the top plate/handle combo. I'll keep watching until they are a bit more real.

Great to hear the Titan is coming. Congratulation to Konstantinos et al at Aeon....I agree with Phil though, prices are to high for my taste, looking to get my hands-on for real world testing.

Sorry but so far none equals the capabilities of the CLUTCH form RED, but most importantly ALL FAIL BIG TIME to understand the most important element of comfort and stability as well, as horizontal aligning which is imperative with a GOOD shoulder mount, and so far the only ones that have realized that is ET, with their Shoulder Pad, which allows for swivel so to correctly align it to one shoulder, RED has given me reasons to believe that they have a Shoulder module coming that will do just this to apply to their CLUTCH, once that happens the CLUTCH will become my one and only MOst absolute Favorite Shoulder system to date!!

So we'll see how their balancing will work, as this is what interests me the most, and with one third of our movie on shoulder, I consider it the most important element, so good luck to them.

thanks for your comments gentlemen.
Mr Rossi, the very same design you are seeing allows for +-10 degrees from center rotary adjustment ( its also made for right or even left side operators.)
if that is not enough , and someone requires more than +/- 10 degrees it can be made for +-20 degrees or even +/-30 degrees with no additional cost
the very same shoulder pad has a front to back adjustment of +/- 23 mm from center(total 46mm)
you can also have an extra fine front to back adjustment from the QR-BASE at additional +/- 10mm (total 20mm)
Tool-less of course.
thank you very much for your interest.

The clutch doesn't suit everyone Ketch particularly as you say the shoulder pad, which doesn't suit my shoulder at all.

The Titan really appeals and i look forward to seeing it in person ASAP :) Theres a lot of nice touches there designed in by people who are shooters first. I like the totally tool free approach and the top plate with EVF & monitor mounts look very interesting

$6000 is insane.. I don't care if it makes the camera weightless and shoots for me..

I agree Jason. There is some crafty designs in there. In an overcrowded segment I think these guys can actually bring something new to the table. I do however feel that the price bracket they are aiming for doesn't jive with the way they are rolling this out. Doesn't seem like they want the DSLR crowd, yet I feel the marketing is a bit too gimmicky. Pros want hard facts and not teasers. I hope they can show this stuff off at NAB.

Just as different rigs appeal to different people, Im sure the prices aren't going to suit everyone, comes down to how much handheld you do, what level of work your shooting and how much value you put on a good shoulder rig and if you need all the top mount kit.

if you add up the price of a clutch, tactical top plate, a spinner, top handle, top rod mount etc etc in the red store I'm pretty sure you'll get to $6k pretty quick too :)

Plus I guess you don't have to go the $6k option to get an equivalent to the clutch kit

Hmmm I was really interested when the price was possibly in the ballpark of 'half a clutch'. But you seem to get a lot better system with the clutch if this can't go onto a dovetail. $3500 vs $4000 isn't much of a price incentive.

I'm a little uncertain based on the website. Can the QR plate be used on Arri Dovetails when the shoulder pad is removed? Also is there a package without the rear battery plate? Lastly do we need a riser plate to put an Epic at the correct optical height or is that why the 19mm rods are swooped down?

Ketch has a good point. Most shoulder rigs just don't get the job done. Comfort, vertical alignment, low weight are great, shouldn't be that hard to make right? I find a nice compact unit is also on the desirables list.

Has anyone been successful using a shoulder mount with a belt clip? I can see the wires getting in the way.

I'd love to see some kind of shoulder mount with gryo-stabilization.

Ketch,

Have you story boarded your whole film already/finally? (Don't know how long you've been working on it. I heard you talk about it only a little while ago).

with one third of our movie on shoulder

Yep. Tend to agree. Simple Shoulder mounts shouldn't cost half as much as a full of technology camera. (scarlet)
People are dreaming.

I saw some rip off clutches in China for $850 bucks.. Obviously know way near as well made as Reds clutch. ... But they most certainly worked.

Nice titanium rig though. :)))).

That's for a rig with everything included. Not just a shoulder rig. I believe that if you make the math. You'll come to a different conclusion.

EVF mount
Top plate
Top handle with rails and top rod brackets
Shoulder mount rig
QR platform

And all little quirks to have everything in place

If I take closest competition and add all that up I get to well over $8500 - so I don't agree on that it's priced high

I think the problem is, Red asks its customers to do the addition for ourselves--when we see the shopping cart total.

You're releasing everything with a high number attached and names like "advanced" and "complete solution." It does the shopping for us, but it makes people balk whereas Red gradually invites you to spend. your. money.

Your system is no doubt interesting and I've been looking forward to it since December. But we should be able to integrate it into existing setups without too much difficulty.

Your EVF mount could work with the Red top mount I already have.
Your rosettes could be standard. So people can use Aaton grips or handles they already have.

Your shoulder pad could work with existing baseplate systems. Right now, your plate has a dovetail mount that accepts a small base which mounts the shoulder pad. It seems we need your quick release platform's guts to mount the base for the shoulder pad. If you make a simple dovetail containing a female mount for the shoulder pad, folks won't have to spend $1120 for a new baseplate. The center of gravity won't be exactly as you imagined it, but you'll sell a lot of shoulder pads.

In other words, we should be able to buy just what we need, so more of us can afford you.

Wooden Camera has a rig demo at NAB and its under $1000. Personally all I really need in a shoulder rig is how fast can I get the camera on the rig, is it light & comfortable for long run & is it well balanced & can I adjust on the fly.

Hello Gentleman.
Firstly I want to tell you that the Titan is not Titanium. Just a single bone of the Titan made from titanium would cost more than 600 usd to be milled out of billet titanium.its made of 7075 t5 aluminum hard anodized with the best possible quality.

Secondly about compatibility.
we are doing everything with out copying anything of our previous competitors. We are compatible with Arri standard rosettes, and we have chosen to go with Arri standard as most systems do work with this. We have also gone with the Arri dovetail standard so people can use their already available arri of other compatible plates.
we are using the standard 19mm, 15mm, and LWS standards and you can get to each one of these choices with out riser plates.
You can also use any of your rod mount accessories, so anything you already have bought, a 19mm standard mounting bracket or battery plate, or a 15mm mounting accessory can work with our system with no problem.
the rail standard is different but so is the philosophy and what can you do with our rail solutions rather than just to fit it with previous competitors gear.
we are offering a lot more functions all around, and everything has been made so we dont offer just another similar solution, always aiming to give something extra with everything.

Last we are close to 1000 usd cheaper that our closest competitor in the same comparable basis parts. which is not a small difference,

thank you very much
