  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ALERT! Please read.

There is always wild news going on at Red. Both good and bad. Mark i pray for you, having your hard earned camera gear stolen from you is heart breaking and violating.
On another note, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a 007-style operation, staged to look like a home invasion. Camera companies in japan would love to have an epic to disect.
 
That feeling of having been violated is a horrible one to have to endure.

I hope you all recover from it quickly and feel able to sleep easy again very quickly.

Hi Mark.

I can imagine what you feel. The broke in my company 10 days ago. Stolen 5 cameras, laptops, lenses etc...
Now they made a real mistake: They use the laptop for internet and our server stored their IP...Hope police will be successful.

Fingerprinting the meta data of every RED would be a very good idea...

To the thief...

In case you guys who stole Marks camera happen to be reading all of this on Reduser, I'd like you to take a minute and have you consider a couple of things...

As you may have read here, that camera is incredibly unique and precious to several thousand Red fans all over the world not to mention extremely meaningful to Mark, Jim and all the people at RED who created it.

You guys have inadvertently raised a firestorm on a global basis and as a result, it is going to be really, really hard to move that camera. There is only one like it in the world.

No one knows who you are or why you took it, and I don't even know if you are reading this, but, if you are, let me just suggest a kind of extraordinary idea to you.

Keeping in mind how hard it is going to be to sell it, and how we'd all hate to think of it at the bottom of a lake somewhere, why don't you consider doing something really remarkable with your life here and make alot of people happy?

Why not just give the camera back to Mark, who is a really hard working, dedicated, generous and innovative guy highly respected in his field? He is one of the good guys out there and just wants to do really good work.

Most will probably think I am pretty naive for writing this and maybe I am, I don't know.

But I am thinking about you guys too. Living this way is only hurting you and hurting others as you can see. If you keep doing this stuff, it is likely that you are going to get caught or worse eventually. On some level you must know that.

So I don't know who you are or if this is falling on deaf ears or if it is reaching you at all but I do know that you can do something right and make alot of people happy.

So please consider this...drop off the camera somewhere, no questions asked and make a call or an e-mail from an anonymous Internet cafe somewhere or something like that. I don't know if it matters to you but make it a Happy New year for thousands of people out here. Amaze them.

Up to you...I hope you make the right decision.

The world is full of shitty people doing awful things to good people.

So sorry this happened, but so glad everyone is OK. This could have gone down so much worse.
 
Mark, I've never met you, but I'm sorry for what happened and am glad everyone is safe. That's all that's really important.

As for the camera...everyone keep their ears open on Craigslist.
 
Mark, I'm sorry for the experience you and your family have had to endure. I'm glad everyone is safe and I hope you enjoy the rest of your new year.

On finding the stolen good: What if REDCINE included a "call home" feature which read the R3D data and check it against the stolen camera database and can log the IP of a computer which is handling the stolen camera's footage. Or if firmware is updated the firmware includes a list of stolen cameras that can brick a camera that's registered as stolen. Apologies if I'm repeating other ideas, but I think all of us would be okay with having a software feature that helped the community.

Again, this is assuming the thief knows what they have.

Just woke up to this… So relieved to hear your family is safe. I pray the thieves won’t get away with your peace of mind as well. I look forward to a successful ending to this thievery and a return to the amazing amount of information you share with the community

I know what they are going true right now, my house was broken into two years ago
and is horrible, it is a bad feeling…!
 
Mark, so sorry to hear of this horrible news. It happens to the best of us. My house and family got robbed right in the middle of our sleep about a year ago. Woke up to find nice stuff all gone from downstairs, including a new car.

Seek solace in that these are the stupidest motherfuckers on the planet right now to be in posession of Epic 00006. We'll get em.
 
Check dealers and pawn shops in Marseille and Torino. It will likely surface there if its a simple robbery. Marseille would be my guess. Anyone in pawn or a dealer would know what it is and know that its hot. It might even be at the bottom of the Med by now.

But, this sounds targeted and professional. There were so many people in the house, it seems too daring for it to be a simple break-in. The perp or perps would be easily outnumbered and the exits would be too easy to block just from the chaos of someone waking up and panicking. -- Doesn't make sense.

You're very lucky no one was hurt.

Since this was close to the border (even Africa through Marseille) it might be wise to alert Interpol. If this is Industrial Espionage, as some suggest, the crew would likely be Corsican and known to the authorities in France and Italy and this break-in could provide a juicy lead for them.

This is a tight community. We need your help. Keep your eyes and ears open for any news, tips or details about an EPIC floating around. An EPIC is a hard thing to circulate since there is only one in the world.

Please contact anyone at RED if you hear of anything.

Of course Mark is heartbroken. So are we.

In my experience cops could care less about property theft. They do a feeble amount of work. They file a report for insurance purposes. I was ripped off in Hawaii and the cops were horrible - almost laughing about it. I have had vehicles broken into and CD players & GPS devices stolen and the cops would not even show up to write a report.

I have no idea what the French police would be like but working the case long distance with a language barrier will test your will power.
