  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ALERT! Please read.

Wether it was planned, or just a random coincidence, they stole the holy grail in the film world, and have made alot of people Pissed. Id be scared if I were the thieves.

I hope things turn out good for you Mark. Luckily you and the other people in the house were ok.

The police here started doing research on the camera and got all fired up about it. I went back to the police station later today to find that most of the officers had worked through their lunch - they had created an impressive document with numerous images and details of the EPIC and this is now with law enforcement agencies throughout France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Good. I was concerned they would regard the item as ordinary and it would fall into a bureaucratic black hole. Glad you and your family are safe, Mark. You're very lucky no one was hurt.

Darnit! What a way to end the year, Mark. Time to count your blessings (again). There will be many more RED Epics to follow. That'll give you plenty to look forward to in 2011. Be well and stay safe.

I think we may be overlooking something in this mystery. That is, was this "camera" stolen because it was a camera?... or was it actually a Maltese Falcon?

Hmmmm????!!

Mark, like everyone else here, I feel your pain; however, I'm happy nothing worth grieving over really happened, so bless you and your family.
Now, I'm a cynic by nature, and I truly believe that in cases like this, the usual suspects are the right suspects. In my estimation, this was no common robbery; think about it-how many other Epics are out there? Too much of a coincidence. These guys were there for the camera. If someone out there has a hunch or overheard any suspicious conversation please let Mark know so that we have leads to follow.

Keep the faith, Good luck.

also I stronngly believe in a sort of industrial espionage case...

006 was stolen in French Alps resort...then Jim have to sent 007 to find it!!!

I mean not a new camera but 007 sort of agent that should find out what actually happened, who stole it, why,... and bring 006 back to Mark!!!

Hi Mark, I´m very sorry to hear that. Sounds like a very violent act of destroying privacy (I experienced years ago a similar story and have a lot of compassion for the fear and anger be caused by such a trauma) . I´m happy your family, friends and you are well. I think it was good you all did not wake up during this robbery.
It is very unusual to me to hear the burglar came while you all were in the house. In the area you stayed they normally observe the house over weeks and make sure nobody is around.
I´m keeping my eyes open for 006.

I wish you and your friends and family a Happy New Year and hope you can enjoy the rest of your holiday!
Marc

Wow! Mark, I'm very glad to hear everyone is okay! Everything stolen is just hassle.

Theft off a set is one thing, but a home invasion burglary is completely different. This could have ended much differently.

If RED was to put up $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of this gang, there would be a virtual worldwide dragnet looking for this crew and the camera. The message would be loud and clear: "Don't even think about stealing a RED."

I like this idea!

Sad to hear :(

May be a good opportunity to put together a full fledge database of stolen camera's that integrates with RedCineX, or the R3D SDK and doesn't allow the footage to be dealt with if the serial no. or ID is a camera flagged as stolen. Could at least make the camera useless as a camera to those who stole it, or tried to sell it off.

If they didn't steal anything but the camera gear and cash that is pretty odd, as I would imagine there would be many other things of value in a place like that. But I don't think any corporation would ever take a risk like this.

Get it back!

Mark it may be relevant to know that many cinema related items stolen in France end up in Morocco and Tunisia, there is a very active black market there for stolen lenses and cameras of pro grade. Possibily something to pass on to the investigators.

Mark, my heart goes out to you and your family.

Like many here, I know what its like to have been burgled. Fortunately for me, that was just coming home to discover the break in had already occurred. Even though many high dollar items were taken, some of them more personal, like a few favorite instruments...... It doesn't even come close to what you and your family experienced. I know how unsettling that was for me, and in my mind, I have to multiply that ten fold to try to imagine what your family is feeling now.

As crazy as it sounds, if it had to happen, I think it's better that it was in a hotel, rather than your home.

Like Jarred said, the camera is replaceable. And as Ketch sadly knows, it could have been so much worse.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people, but I truly believe what goes around, comes around.... These criminals will get there's..... and it won't be pretty......

And you and family will get yours, and that my friend will beautiful, and magic, because thats the circle.

Best wishes to you and yours, for peace and closure.

terrible news, sorry to hear it.
32,000+ views on the thread and counting assures that the word is out, sooner or later someone from Reduser is bound to hear something and help get Epic #6 back to it's owner.

Mark I'm so sorry to hear this. Having been the victim of theft in my home, although never to this level, there is little that matches the feeling of pure anger that you are left with. Thank God that your family and all of the occupants of the chalet are ok. I sincerely hope that they find these clowns soon and bring them to some sort of justice.

Best,

Omar

Yes this is a very faint possibility but my bet goes for East European house robbers.
I had them in my house in the italian alps...twice...these retards now wonder what to do with the pelican case...believe me! All this talk of social engineering via fakebook here is conspiracy stuff. I like how Mark goes to Police twice and more times and makes them understand whats at stake here, the chances of stopping these nomads at some intersection and searching their car and finding it are maybe 1% but they get more probable if he gets the story to police in the right way. The longer these thieves keep the camera the more likely the chance they read here though :ciappa:

I don't think RED would do this simply because they can't afford to do it for everyone, but if the we contributed a bit each into a giant pot...

GPS Tracking device or chip needed...

GPS Tracking device or chip needed...

So sorry to hear this..please guys will someone give some thought to adding some sort of hidden tracking device GPS in these cameras somehow. It can be done somehow surely.
I would buy this feature for my Epic, wouldn't you just love to show up at the cameras location and arrest these guys...put them where they belong.

Anyone else think this would be a good idea??

So Sorry Mark, can't imagine how you must feel...I really dislike a thief..

We cannot do this for everyone and this is an exception... but we WILL pay a reward for the arrest and conviction of the thieves and the safe return of #00006 and the rest of the system. This camera is truly special.

Jim

How about small brothers of Epic. All the surveillance cameras that are seems to be evrywhere now a days --- Drive inns, roads for speed limits , hotels, your own place, even neighbours, parkings, gas-filling station. It difficult to believe they came by foot from the forest. Somebody(filmed) with big black bag or a car nearby can solve a question. If it not thousands of passers by (like in New York) it could be solved.

Wow Mark, this is just crazy scary.... so glad the family is safe! a foot from the bed?
this stuff is tough emotionally, hang in there!

There must be a log in registry on reduser for visitors right? The police definitely have leads given you posted where you were taking 006 for the maiden voyage. (or maybe they saw it on twitter?)

AS random as it may seem, it just seems really convenient. Im not saying its industrial espionage, im saying someone who visited here or twitter staged this robbery. Too much coincidence. How many other Americans are staying in that resort?

They picked you guys? hmmm
