  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wow, I'm in shock. What's especially sad is that Mark you are the nicest, most generous guy ever. I still don't understand why sometimes bad things happen to the best people ......

I feel violated. Angry. Shocked. There is a part of me that feels like I let RED and the community down. All of your comments are very appreciated - not exactly how I was expecting to end 2010. I was looking very forward to posting some amazing images - and yes - both copies of all the footage I've shot here is gone.

What is important is that my family is safe and unharmed. I hope the people responsible for this theft are found quickly.

Hey Mark, so glad that everybody in your family is ok, that really is the most important thing. I put the word out to some of our French partners, and if anything comes up, I'll pass along the info.

Thank God everyone's safe and unharmed.

I really have a hard time going for the corporate espionage angle, especially if there have been other robberies in that area. And the camera is absolutely useless to a filmmaker -- anyone he hired for cast or crew that noticed the serial number would call Red about it. So I think there's a really good chance it was a random theft, and it'll turn up soon.
 
Mark I am very sorry to hear about this. It is really a rough way to start the new year.

Stealing someone's livelihood is the most cowardly of acts. As we all wait for our Epics so many of us have been living vicariously through you and your excitement as you so generously shared with us all your experiences discovering this amazing new cinema camera. So I feel for you and can empathize with the sense of violation that you and yours must feel.

I understand your violation. When we were in Chicago my wife (my producer also) and I had our living quarters on the upper floor of our studio building. We were asleep at 2 am when pros came in through 2 inch steel doors with Medeco locks. My wife woke up and asked who the masked man was at the foot of our bed. I sleep through everything but my wife's question woke me. It's amazing what you do on adrenaline. I jumped out of bed stark naked yelling "In the name of Jesus get out of here!" and grabbed a fireplace poker and chased him down the hall and stairs. Then I realized what had happened. Fortunately we only lost some petty cash. They missed the camera cases. But I will never forget the sense of violation.

We met once in Chicago at a REDuser post NAB event. You were very generous with your time and extremely personable. For this and many other reasons, I am so glad that you and your family are safe.

oh man, can this be just coincidence.. the only epic out there... What a horrible feeling and even more pronounced over the holidays, feel for you & your family, luckily nobody was hurt... major major downer

This is awful. I'm so glad to hear you and your family are safe Mark. Yes it sucks EPIC is lost, but like Jarred said it is replaceable. Hopefully they are caught quickly. We are all here for you and will do whatever we can to help.

Me and Pam are unbelievably sorry for you and your loved ones after hearing about this terrible situation. Thank goodness you and your family were left unharmed. Being right after you in receiving Red One and Epic, I can feel your pain brother. All of us early adopters of Red products have felt moved to publicize our early use of the Red cameras to help others not in that position to understand the use of the cameras, and to let everyone in on the "buzz". Unfortunately in this case these scumbags may have used your openness and willingness to share against you. But in reality the odds are that this was just a random robbery.

We come into this world without any material possessions - and leave the same way. The most important thing in all this is that you and your family's lives were spared...

I've been down this road before. In the mid-'90's I was in Miami South Beach to field produce and direct a Fox Sports Net inline skating TV program. After the first days shooting we took our four new Betacams back to the hotel. This hotel had a "security" guard at the front door around the clock. Against my better judgement, me and Pam stepped out for just 15 minutes to get some take out food for dinner. When we returned, the front door to the room was ajar, and all four Betacams were gone. The 2nd floor window was broken outward. The "security" guard claimed he hadn't seen anything unusual - yeah right!

When the Miami police came the first thing the officer said was "You two are so lucky you weren't in this room when they came for the robbery. The would have probably killed you both then taken your stuff. As we speak your cameras are probably on a plane for Central or South America". It then really dawned on us then that losing the cameras was one thing - but potentially losing our lives would be a much heavier outcome. As the officer was finishing the report his radio crackled with a report that another violent crime had just been committed a block away...

I had to scramble and find four replacement rental Betacams that evening, contact the insurance company, and get my act together to do three more days of shooting the sports event. We changed hotels, and each evening we said a little prayer of thankfulness that our lives were spared. Cameras can be replaced - but lives can't.

Me and Pam's hearts go out to you and your family in this time of great stress. We'll remember you and your family in our prayers...

Be safe brother...I have a good feeling that all will come out well in the end.
 
Wow, I can't believe that. I'm not expecting to see it in Austin anytime soon, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I hope that 2011 turns out better for you than 2010 ended.
 
Sending a prayer your way Mark. Very glad that you and your family are safe. I know it mirrors the sentiment of nearly every post, but having followed the red journey from the beginning, you very much feel a part of it, so felt I needed to post.
 
Probably in the hands of a private collector that's gonna wait till until there's enough epic's in the streets. Hopefully some 1st AC will see the serial no. and realize what it is.
