  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

... agreed ...

... Shooting an RGB codec locks you into a box. *Don't do that. *There are just too many advancements coming that limiting yourself just seems silly.
Alchemy is a tool for RAW that will make you rejoice why RAW matters.

hehe KETCH!
perfect color timing ... :-)

Jim..one very crucial question tho

The RAW works like a dream in DI, but like you said RGB codec locked you in the box. Agree 1000%. So how do we solve VFX workflow that is still depending on DPX and EXR very much ? We couldnt export this thing back to RAW

I believe he is referring to it as a capture format and flexibility prior to post. Post after REDCINEX is a different concern.

Shoot RAW. Easy to understand.

You can change and adjust almost everything in RAW.

Alchemy is a useful tool (I think for every image) if you have shot RAW.

I will use Alchemy on everything I have ever shot or will ever shoot. It is that good.

SDK for sure...

Alchemy will work on every image ever taken on RED.

People will ask us why we didn't offer this before...

And I was just about to fall asleep!

Love it. :)

backwards compatibility is priceless. as is forward looking image science.

Do you ever wonder if the strength of RAW is its weakness, in some instances? I think continually improving the WYSIWYG alal Alexa is tantamount to wider acceptance.
at least for monitoring and playback. the stigma is powerful. The more idiot proof the better is some cases... that is what I hope Alchemy is. its all about good looking pictures.

the only "problem" with RAW is if you dont know how to grade or light it...then people get the wrong idea. but RAW in the right hands has limitless possibilities... agreed.

... guess a key may be love for color .... ;-) ... and its process, application and discoveries ...

... and ever deeper insights into application of a genius concept to start with ....

Tim, I can see your point, but are you suggesting we should give up raw because some people are idiots?

Maybe the compromise is what Nikon/Canon do with raw stills: have a "look" applied in-camera so you're not getting flat boring blah-ness, but it's still totally (well, mostly, in their case) removeable in post.

No, NOT AT ALL. I am saying that PROCESSING RAW needs to be a little simpler for the masses if Scarlet and EPIC are to truly transcend the MAJOR productions shooting that kit.
RAW and REDCODE are the most potent digital recording media devised. RAW rules. But the 1000's and hopefully 10.000's or 100.000's of RED RAW customers aren't colorists.

A few safe and artistic grade presets would help legions make the transition to RAW. These people all shoot BAKED in WYSIWYG. RAW is beyond foreign to them.

What is easier to process REDCODE RAW than in a free app like REDCINE-X Pro?

Alchemy slider. You heard it 1st here...
