  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I wonder how they will handle ordering queue? Priority to current owners or non-owners first? These things are going to fly off the shelf.

Raven is RED's new entry level digital cinema camera. It will be $5950 for just the camera Brain, release date unknown as of yet. However, that does include a fixed SSD Media Bay as well as the fixed Canon EF Mount. There hasn't been other news regarding other mounts just yet, but more info will likely spill out of Jarred's insomnia or during the official announcement on the 25th (wait was tonight the official announcement?). RED Raven features a 4K Dragon sensor with a width 20.48mm that is capable of up to 120fps 4K recording and is part of the "DSMC²" family style of camera body along with Weapon, which likely means Raven will be compatible with the same accessories. RED RAVEN is the lightest weight camera body in the DSMC² family.

A modest shooting package with 120GB MINI-MAGs, the new 4.7" LCD Touch, and battery solution can likely be had for under $10k.

I think it's a great thing that Red does to give priority to it's current owners. However this will most likely be my first Red and since it will be I really do hope it's first come first served. Give us a chance to get one and begin shooting as soon as possible. The owners already have a Red and can shoot anytime they want. We first-timers don't want to wait any longer than we have to. We've waited long enough.

It would really suck to think that we can, realistically, join the Red family but have to wait until after the first of the year or Spring.
 
Not even interested in getting a RAVEN, but I really like how the RED community is run and how Jarred and Brent interact directly with the users at random hours. You guys set the bar high for other companies. Respect.

God I LOVE that Red has made it a point to remain a private company. We sure as hell would not be getting this kind of excitement if they were public.

Hell, if they were public we probably wouldn't even be getting a dragon sensor, that would probably be held as a reason to get the Raven "2"

Had to pull over while driving and read, I thought sub 6k was a joke at first. but 4K4ALL is shaping up to be a real thing. hopefully the 25th will bring an opportunity to leave a deposit. Jarred can we let the REDUSER community get first pick? pretty please.

It seems to be a really great camera. But the price will be 10000$ (the brain alone is useless). And we don't know anything yet about the 120fps feature. Probably Prores like some said. People should not stop considering the scarlet dragon though. My scarlet MX was cleaner than the scarlet dragon @4k, and the cropped factor inferior. But I would love a Raven as a 2d cam.
 
Wow! That's a lot of camera at a really great price. This is fantastic for a lot of indie shooters. You're going to LOVE the Dragaon sensor!
