  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K NAB WARS

Canon is insane. They're just not getting any more money from me. Not even for a $400 EF lens...

The EOS C is running a DigicV processor... just like the 5DIII. So not only did they render the C300 obsolete... they're simply just up-selling $3500 hardware with better software. They can go screw themselves.

Talk about making Obsolete your own technology before it even comes out, I fill sorry for all of those that purchased the C300, as well as all of those that purchased the 1D X, as now the C500 and the 1D C, will OBSOLETE both of them...

So happy I'm out of that game, and in to RED... ;)

agree there must be people out there that are still waiting to get there c300, and been told by the sales person that it's as good as it gets... then canon do what they always did.. the make you feel that that camera you bought not to long ago now has a vantage value..

Hold on a sec.. before you stop giving them all your money, keep the wallet open a little bit to keep buying lenses. They make great glass and I want them to continue on doing so.. Nothing makes me happier than running around with the Canon 70-200mm on my Epic. :)

Jarred i believe Nikon make a pretty sweet 70-200...

That is true... but no more money for camera bodies... :)

A camera doesn't determine what is "cinema". It is the story, performances, characters, and overall production. I love my RED gear but saying that the C300 isn't a true "cinema camera" is inaccurate because it can very well be. And yes, there's nothing wrong with having a camera that is capable of shooting in all natural light. Just ask Mr. Mallick and Lubezki.

Lol, this is just too funny.

Don't get me wrong, I fell in love with my 5d mkII the first time I held it. It changed how I shoot and lit a fire in me that still has not gone out.

I also think this announcement is what the Nov 3 2011 announcement should have been. The specs on both the cameras look interesting, and if I had $15 grand to blow I might just buy the EOS 1D-C.

My problem is that I love Canon but they are just off the mark ever since the C300. I mean why would I spend that $15 grand on the 1D-C for 4K 24fps when I could drop that into a Scarlet and get 4k at 24 - 30fps, not to mention shooting in RAW and on top of that I get HDRx. Granted the cost of media is quite a bit more, and the batteries are not the best.

Canon you really have forgotten about the camera and the people that really kicked off the DSLR movement. Stop dreaming about Hollywood and come back to us.

Again, very happy I went with Red.

The good thing about all this 'war' business is that in the end of the day this can only be good news for us Scarlet owners. The closer these cameras compete with each other, the closer they come to the Scarlet, the more likely we are (Scarlet owners, not Canon) to get some nice juice upgrades (some free, some at a price) and upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. I am glad I bought the camera I did with a huge amount of sacrifice. And I feel secure somehow as Red is a company of visionaries that will as much as possible keep things evolving.

P.S. And yes, oh boy, did the 5D MkII change the game and moved me up a few ranks enabling me to own a RED camera today...

Classy, my friend, classy to read this fair play by one RED's man (E :-)

PS: Great lens BTW.

I too am just in love with that Canon 70-200L IS 2.8 zoom. The bokeh is soooo tasty. Lots of flexibility in managing DOF. Focus fall off is smooth. Makes very pretty pictures. Hands down my favorite stills lens on Epic.

Cheers - #19

I've gotten spoiled with my RPP, now my canon glass just sits somewhere (had to think a bit where it was ... in a bag under the table). Even my Zeiss CP .2 just sits around, and with the RPP i get to burn calories while shooting !

The C500 is not a C300 replacement, it is just a step up. For $25,000, the C500 sounds pretty sweet but I think the Epic X with Dragon will top it. And If I bought a C300, I would not be pissed about the C500 because it is double the price.

Couldn't agree more, Jarred -
Just wrapped on 3 days of shooting with the Epic and I have to say that 70-200 feels like it was MADE for it.
We must have used it on 80-90% of our shots.
Once we put it on, it was tough to decide to take it off.

According to http://www.canonrumors.com/ the suggested retail price for the 4K DSLR is $15,000. So with it being the same price as Scarlet, plus it can only do 8 Bit Motion JPEG up to 24 fps, I think Scarlet still wins this battle.

If you scroll down on that link it is also saying the C500 will be closer to $35,000, soooooo yeah. I guess we'll know for sure soon.
