  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

3 weeks...

You are such a Red fanboy Jim. ( :

You guys ever think about making a dedicated stills camera, like a 6X7 or 4X5"???
Apart from Epic, I could sure use a 4X5 inch sensor with HDR. with hand holding capabilities - how about you Jarred ?

SCARLET IS COMING SOON...RED REVOLUTION GOES SCARLET NOW...

Maybe it's time to consider cryogenic freezing until Nov. 3rd...

If you saw that South Park episode where Cartman is waiting for the Nintendo Wii, you'll realize that's a bad idea.

And everyone needs to stop freaking out about Backorder. I think he meant that because it will be so in demand that they won't be able to keep up with it. I'm pretty sure they'll do their best to try and keep up (even though it'll be hard).

not selling RED to canon i hope...

But you never know... it's hard to keep healthy a private multibillion dollar business in today's global economical and also any local eco environment today... just saying it...

Count me in as one who expects some sort of announcement on Epic-S on that day. Yes, we will see Scarlet, and probably more than one configuration/package. But if you look at Jim's original schedule back in January, pre-tsunami, Epic-S was about a month behind Scarlet. Since it seems like Red is now firing on all cylinders and in full production, I really think with the head-to-head discussion with Canon, that Red will pull the curtain back and Epic-S will be not far in the background. Like, maybe EOY ship. And I also think while Scarlet is great, Epic-S is going to be THE camera many want. Huge bang for the buck with Epic-S.

I'm just rooting for a 4k+ S35 camera for under $20k.

If you want to tell us on the 26th, that would be cool. -nudge nudge, wink wink-

This worry is a bit puzzling to me.

Your EPIC-S does not suddenly become worthless once the FF35 gets announced. FF35 is more expensive and needs pricier lenses.

And rentals are insanely expensive. I would think that the cost of a week or two of rentals on an EPIC-S would easily exceed likely depreciation.

D

It's just a hassle to find a buyer, ship it, deal with payment, pay sales tax twice etc if it's only a couple months. I would say depreciation is at least 30% just opening the box so the question becomes: is a $3k investment worth a couple months? That's why I think about 6 months is the break-even for my usage.

I don't rent my camera out, it'll just be my camera for my usage. It'll be a replacement for the 5D for witness camera work, reference shots and spec projects (and travel). For client work they'll just rent an Epic, Alexa or s35 cam anyway. So the 'pay-off' vs renting isn't very quick for my usage patterns. If I lose $3k to depreciation as soon as I open the box and the 5D is perfectly adequate for reference photography then I'll just rent an epic when needed for personal projects.

That's particularly true if the Epic-S is ends up coming out in a couple months.

My bet is that after our November 3rd announcement... we will never, ever, be out of back-order. Ever. Really. Never... ever.

Jim

*blinks*

Wasn't it only a few months ago that it was 'adult supervision' in manufacturing, and 'no more backorders!' was the slogan?

I guess everything in life changes... :-)
