  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

2000-3200 ISO full res Helium Tiffs

Here is another one, helium 12800ISO vs alexa raw 3200ISO (max alexa raw iso, and then exposure + to reach the same level as helium picture.... Alexa falls flat on the floor in comparison, no joke. klick to see larger frame.

We are doing a UHD side by side comparison now, this is just a frame grab from that. But it´s quite easy to see who has the upper hand.

No one get mad at me...

but the overall color impression is better in the top one.

can we achieve that in the bottom one by going Log3G10 and RWGRGB and transforming on the bottom one?

Some basic slider adjustments in Photoshop. More blue and less green in the midtowns and shadows.

WOW. Alexa vs Helium is like night and day.
8K? LLOLPF?
I have to test myself.

I said this in the Intro thread, but I've noticed that the noise in Helium footage is way more monochromatic than previous/other sensors. And when combined with such tiny pixels/massive downscale (8k->4k), it seems to result in footage that's perceptibly far cleaner (especially in the low-end).

...And, yeah, .r3ds or it didn't happen.

But... what about the highlights??? That's the big question. Personally not too interested in an A7R type low light camera.

All but 2 completely available light LL olpf-

the one with the neon mixed light is all natural except the eyelight is from Jeff Hagerman's iPhone light haha [h=5]
[/h]and the fill on the city scape is from a small china ball

Very cool no doubt for low light shots but I imagine that daylight will be trickier with all that native sensitivity.

Nice

people should really do tests with high lights , why all these low light tests? these are cinema cameras not really worried about low light prob never use above 1600 ISO if that

Here is a R3D file to play with. You find both highlights at clipping point and deep shadows.
I don't know what you think, but the image looks pleasing to me.

Quick and dirty setup.
My 12 years pulling focus with foolcontrol - first time ever, she has never seen foolcontrol before and nailed focus pretty well - me pulling in on a gimbal.
Just that lamp left in the room. Check for yourself.
My daughter will kill me for this ;-)

Björn, I am not sure how you managed to push to 12800. Working in RedCine in 8K it looks to me that 4000-5000 is the limit (for my taste).
Or is the trick that you have to downscale to 4K?
