  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

+1 Module shipping next week

Hehe Adrian, as long as you don't have one on your doorstep, the rest will have to wait ;)

I believe the question is: if you can deactivate the module so the HDMI in the brain is functional again (without the need to unmount the +1)
Jarred said that you "need to remove it".

So the question is: if we want to use the HDMI port plus any additional modules (say: dual battery, side SSD) do we need to swap back to the dumb adapter in order to make use of the HDMI port again.

Switching out and keeping both adapters seems unpractical. hence the question :)

Anything we make can be stacked back there.. we have integrated the adapter module into the +1 so you don't need both anymore. You put this directly onto the back of the camera, and then stack your other modules onto it.

I guess the HDMI issue is just a matter of plugging/unpluging, or switching on/off in the menus, or something like that... Other than that, it IS a module adapter just like the dumb one.

It depends if the HDMI connection is a cable which can be disconnected without unmounting the +1.

From the video it's hard to see if the connection is a cable, or some sort off rigid metal assembly coming off the +1.

Unfortunately... this seems to be the case.
Both adapters (dumb and +1) in the camera case. One installed, the other in a pouch. And the need to switch between them occasionally.
Sigh...

No, I believe he meant you remove just the cable not the module.

Maybe Jarred can confirm. It sounds ridiculous to swap modules, especially if like the dumb one it's a 4 screws attaching job. He did say it would replace the dumb one and there was no need for both. I'm sure the HDMI plug is a cable. But that's my speculation based on what Jarred said.

That's what I think too.

Hummm... I think that´s your desire... based on what Jarred said, unfortunately it looks like the +1 will have to be uninstalled to use the HDMI port...

Found my camera.

Here is the new backpack adapter.. lets you put the backpack, or battery plate, on the back of any module ( just not the brain )

Also here you can see the HDMI cable coming off the +1

So, is the HDMI cable removable (ie you leave the +1 in situ and just disconnect the HDMI in order to get at the HDMI output on the brain?).

Edit - I'm HD-SDI pretty much all the way, but a lot of people have been asking about the HDMI operational side - so I thought U'd jump in!

Nice bench BTW :)

Edit - you added more pix, sneaky!

Double-edit - any price/ETA on the RT?

Its removable in terms of fixing it for a broken cable.. but not removable like you just pull it out and in on demand.. This is an either-or situation.. again, if you need both ports.. get the PRO-IO.

That's fine - as I said, HDSDI is my flavour, but there's been a lot of chat on this thread about the HDMI and how it works/doesn't work in terms of connection and use of port.

I understood it to be a permanent/piggy back to use the HDMI, but others viewed it differently - no biggie for me - pretty much what I was expecting :)

+1 will looks to be useful and keep a small form factor.

Thanks for the the quick reply and pix.

So good. Looks like the bottom two bolts are removable to attach directly to the brain?

nope.. thats what the normal backpack / cheese plate does :) the DSMC module system has the two locking pins on the bottom, plus the hook bracket at the top... that hook bracket isn't removable so it would interfere. the back of the camera is flat and doesn't use the DSMC module pins.

If anyone is thinking " why isn't it all the same " .. its simple. If you add the adapter module and just always leave it on your brain, then it is always the same from back of camera with adapter to module to module.

BUT.. if you do not want to use modules at all, or want the smallest camera possible, if we had built that adapter module into the camera it would add an inch and adds some weight... so we found a way to cut that inch off and make it optional.. modular. We couldnt just put the locking mechanism inside the body because it takes too much space, which is why the adapter module bolts on with traditional ports.

Make sense?

Ah. That makes more sense. To me, rigging-wise, that's also a good thing because it provides a bit more space for the top handle placement (as well as other things) on the top plate without making the camera larger. Nicely done.

** also really nice for those shooting with the Pro I/O who want to trim down the length of their camera really quickly.

Thank you sooo much for this explanation! Jesus this one has annoyed me for ages!!! :D

Why not use the same method as the Pro IO for the +1?

I'm not a fan of the HDMI route. Seems like extra and unnecessary R&D.

Education may cure your distaste. Maybe you don't understand how that works... its not just taking video over pins or whatever you are thinking. The PRO IO has an ASIC in it to create a separate video output, and when you add an ASIC it needs a fan, a heatsink, more power, much more space and more $$ :)

Makes perfect sense to me. Looks great. Thank you.
