  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Since this thread wasn't bombarded with "Yes! my Imperio is on it's way!" I assume the e-mails didn't go out.

Anybody get one this week?

Erik? You got 100 of them. Any updates? I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

I did get an email on Monday (6/1) so I'm sure they're on the way.
When I called to update my info with Birger I was told they expect to ship my Impero late in the week. I'm probably early in the line since I ordered my mount on the first day reservations opened.

Don't we have to pay a little extra for the Impero? That's what I was told so I've been waiting for the email asking for the balance.

Hey Jason,
The balance for me is $300 plus shipping. This is down from the original $375 when Birger was going to make the Follow Focus knob ($300) and the accessory cable to connect to the Birger mount ($75).
An accessory cable is now included with the basic Impero (for optional wired use) making it $75 cheaper than the original order.
Birger did mention that one can purchase additional cables if desired.

I should note that the final balance may be ultimately based on when you ordered and the configuration you ordered.
Definitely get the accurate balance figure from Birger before assuming based on what I write.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

No one got any email? It's been a week.

i got a email ...
"We are preparing to send your next shipment which will consist of the Cinema Remote Kit, which includes the "Impero" from View Factor Studios."

Got email (I need to send back my Mk1 mount for the upgrade) ... things are moving

Got the email. Sent my mount in for upgrade. Should be back tomorrow. I expect the impero next week if all goes well!

Got the email to make payment on the Impero yesterday afternoon - as did everyone else, I'm sure. They're supposed to be about ready to ship. Looking good at the moment.

... emails and the Impero will arrive, we just need to wait.

In the mean time, here's an image shot with EF 800mm/f5.6 L IS. The image is merged from three frames grabbed with Redcive from a single footage.

nice. why did you need to merge it?

Jason, Thanks. It's a panorama. I was in a hide about 10m away from the crane that it almost filled the whole frame. No chance to change the lens without scaring the bird. So, I made a tilt and put the images together afterwards in post.

oh, wow, great job on the merge. i couldn't even tell as my question revealed.

No dropped frames with the solid state drive.

No dropped frames with the solid state drive.

I noticed that you were using the Red Drive on the helicopter. Did you have any problems with vibration?
We forked out the $4500 to insure we didn't have dropped frames. At first we tried to use a six foot drive cable and a regular drive, but, even setting on super dense foam inside the cabin, we had dropped frames. If you are planning on shooting helicopter, do yourself a favor and use the solid state drive.
