Birger Lens Mount Reservations

believe-in-birger.jpg

I decided to stop reading old posts when I got to this one. It made me happy...:ranting2:

Nose to the grindstone today... more building and shipping. :construction:

Imho...

Imho...

Very well. It's time to care about your customers as far as full information on EACH order, I'm afraid. No reply to our emails on my current orders (Canon & Nikon) status, so far.

Thanks in advance,
E. :-)

It's one thing to be upset about the delays, but after this long saga what is it you don't get about the fact that they cannot give updates or even respond to emails about EACH order AND keep working?

Either accept that and the minimal updates, and the fact that they are shipping and leave them alone so they can work - or cancel your order.

I have helped Birger quite a bit, AND we are working on cooperative designs to integrate our products so we have reason to communicate beyond just orders, so Erik pretty much always takes my calls. But with that in my mind I do my best NOT to call unless it's absolutely necessary.

I still have another unit on order as well as a dozen or so housing customers that are waiting for them, so I would appreciate that people leave Birger alone (unless you need to cancel, which is always your right and qualifies as necessary communication) - so they can get these things out.

Wow, 1dog, that's some list. I happen to be on that list, so thanks, good to know. Even though I'm at the bottom. haha.

If there were an alternative canon smart mount close to shipping, I would have cancelled long ago. Like many others, I'm not only drained by this carrot-ware game, but am also worried about product support once I have it. Erik should have hired an assistant to interface with customers long ago.

I'm very interested in your housing, Mike, but quite frankly it makes me a little nervous that you would align yourself with Erik's handling of customer service.

Once again, my hopes are up with the latest issue of a "now shipping" status, but I won't be celebrating until I have the mount in my possession.

Knobs

Knobs

I spoke to the machine shop this morning. We are going to do a ten unit qualification run on the knobs next week. This will be using full production tooling and programs to make sure everything is right. Anything we need to tweak, will only be minor.

Tension issue was resolved in a way that feels good. Instead of skate board bearings, we are using a pair of teflon o-rings. It was a much easier starting point to apply tension. It also makes the unit much smaller. Finner got his whip and speed-crank socket. It is directly in the shaft of the encoder (hard coat aluminum), not the knob itself (plastic). Most things that were asked for included.

Production will start as soon as the ten unit run is approved. Most parts are bar pulled through the spindle in a lathe with minor secondary CNC operations.

Curt will get a mount in the next couple of days. Just left him a voicemail to go over some logistics before we ship.

new order ?

new order ?

Since this is out now, how long is the lead time for new order ?

I'm happy for everybody who has courage and patience.. and now getting delivery :)

Curt's remote looks fantastic and support between Birger and Viewfactor is great, but what about your bluetooth remote? Is there any news on it's development or features? It would be unfortunate if it got downgraded or less functional because of the viewfactor remote. The thing that has made me stick around through all of the delays is the idea that all of the necessary pieces are included in the price of the mount. Another $1000 on top of the price of the mount for any kind of useful wireless functionality would be disappointing to say the least. Sorry to assume the worst if it's not the case, but my optimism shipped with my mount in August : )

Where ever your remote is in it's development, I have to beg for the inclusion of focus distance readout on the unit. We can't count on the readout being supported by Red and displayed in the monitor. And without an accurate measurement of where the focus is set on the lenses, there is no measuring focus. We are left having to focus everything by eye. The focus readout on Canon lenses is tiny and inaccurate. And if we can't measure focus, then this mount is useless in any professional environment.
F-stop adjustment and readout is a must as well, but if necessary you can count the clicks on the mount itself. There is no other way to judge focus distance.

Keep it up Eric! Good Job!

I won't reproduce my mind about what I think regarding lack of response comprehending ONE or TWO emails I sent in order to be informed about my current order status. At least, here. I'm not used to. That's all.

aqua.. didn't your mother teach you when you should have your mouth shut?..

Easy guys and gals, take it easy on the taking-it-personal.
I think there's nothing personal. Just an inconvenient truth. Let's get it loud. Birger hasn't been as responsive as he should be. A little bit arrogant actually.

but customers are customers.. it's quite different.. no doubts.. you don't need a better customer service.. you need one..
