  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

A few mounts trickled out today... more tomorrow. We should have this current batch completed by saturday... at which point we will regroup, and announce the schedule and size of the next batch.

We had a slightly larger fallout than we expected from two of the components. Production quantites of both fixed components are in house, so there is nothing to be worried about. No point in sharing the blow by blow of the last few days, except to say that we are gradually shipping more units, and do not see any hurdles left in getting the rest of this batch out the door.

First knobs will be out about a week after we finish shipping this batch. We still expect to ship the entire Canon backlog during the month of August.

Software control... Early next week we expect to release PocketPC (Microsoft Windows Mobile) version of the application that will let you use a $300 PDA to talk to the mount over BlueTooth for display of lens data and control. Because we did this on .NET, we only need to do a GUI layout to fit on a 320x240 touchscreen to get this working.

The PC application runs under emulation on the mac in parallels. .NET on the mac doesn't seem to be a reasonable option, so we will have a native mac application out in a couple of weeks. Emulation is just a temporary solution. Obviously BootCamp works too.

Curt will be getting one of the engineering units so he might have some interesting things to say next week...

I just bought an 02 atom yesterday... Apparently you can also get a whole load of cinamatography programs. Now iphone is out these remarkable mini pc's are going cheap.

Now that mounts are moving can anyone in the know advise on what tools and sizes are required to change the mount.
Thanks

i see Red has posted they will be connecting the I-pins & replacing a audio board on all REDS ... they want the PL mount on the body when we ship our body for the updates ..
how will this affect the install of the Birger Mt when our camera's come back from Red with the i-pins connected ??( the wires will be connected to the terminal/connector so how do we disconnect or will the terminal/connector store with the folded wires ?)

At NAB the knob Erik had there, had no lag. it was pretty much like pulling focus via a gears FF.....

I'd love some footage on the 10-22... and the 17-55 f2.8 IS.

What are people doing about NDs? screw ons? or mattebox and 4x5.65 filters.... clip on mattebox? or rods?

Erik, is the new iPin upgrade going to anyhow interfere with the mount? Also - You did mention that there might be a way in the future to communicate with the camera sending in lens data once the iOin is connected and operational...

Just curious...

Are all reservation holders meant to have received a new email? I haven't received anything yet.

Only 107s are in the current batch, and have received the newest email about ten days ago. Emails to the next batch will start to go out after we finish shipping this batch. Okay to ask if you have not received an email by 20 August.

Our first one is November 25th. Isn't it supposed to be the 107 batch? No email.

On the other hand, we have notified you on our personal change of credit card number and as far as shipping is concerned. Not yet answered.

Thanks in advance for your care.

E. :-)

I ordered at the end of November too, but I guess I didn't make the 107 cut.

Birger, I know I will not get an answer, but I will ask anyway. And sorry for keep asking the same kind of questions.

In about 2 weeks I will have to finalize my order with RED. October first I have to start shooting with or without Birger. My Res number is 108.051032. Is it realistic to think I'd get a mount before October?. I don't care about the knobs.

I would hate to spent $500 in a nikon dumb mount just for nothing.

Thanks,

Ivan C.

Steven-Marc, Just for reference - it seems I am res #107 231916. I received an email on Aug. 2 suggesting that the mount might be shipping as early as this week.

Thanks David, I just received an email from Erik and we are sorting it out. Seems we'll also have our mount very soon. :weight_lift:
