  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

10 Scarlet Questions with Joseph Hutson... Take 2.

I have a few Questions, when first announced there was talk of a complete kit for the scarlet (basic monitor, power and storage). My questions are
1) is that still planed
2) if yes what would likely still be included (not mentioning price obviously)
3) would Red think about making a very basic rails system closer to a scarlet budget (as sexy as “the clutch” it’s way out of my price point, I remember murmurings of a mount called “the Gunner” but not sure where that was heading.)

Thanks for taking the time to let us know what’s going on, I might not post much but I’m on reduser every day and it’s threads like this that make missed deadlines so easy to forgive.

Thanks
Wot

aaa.. finally someone broke the only rule. QA time stops :)

What's the shipping date on said machine?

" I will answer 10 more... make them good... Just don't ask about pricing or delivery dates... :) " <-- Bottom of first post

Reminds me of those tests I use to get....
You'd do all the questions and at the bottom it'd say

"There is no need to do any of the questions in this test"

erm don't want to be pickey but I think he was asking when you would release the 27 hour a day time machine. (or maybe I just want an excuse as to why you should keep answering questions like the ones I posted.)

Hey Jarred, while we are at it- are Scarlet and Epic mount adapters the same?

nope they are different... the 2/3" program has the ability to be much smaller and to have a very short back focal depth, which is a huge advantage, so its different in all X, Y and Z dimensions.

SSD.. with an optional CF to SSD adapter for people that want to still use CF cards. This is just one of the changes to the original posted package.

I am very glad you guys decided to go that way. Will make ordering easier too as I was definitely planning on upgrading to SSD, so it's nice that it will be standard in the package.

I've been seeing some comparisons between the Red MX and the Alexa but ... I'm just wondering, based on your first tests, how would you guys at Red compare the Scarlet with the Alexa in terms of dynamic range, resolution, etc ? Is it fair (or maybe too early) to make this comparison ? What should we expect ?

I don't know if this was ever answered ... does the Scarlet Fixed lens have any kind of image stabilization? I'm a little surprised not to see that in the spec. Or is that something you think is better done in post?

I'm a little confused, what happened to Take 1? Was it ruled invalid for some reason, or did it move somewhere I'm not seeing it?

Thanks!

David

Take 1?

No stabilization in the lens. Lots of sensors feeding metadata for post stabilization.. like the new Adobe 5.5 Stabilizer ( which is pretty incredible when used right.. and that isn't even using lens data... yet. :) )

is some form of steadycam necessary or will this "off-hand-with-many-senzors-and-metadata" be sufficient in terms of effectiveness = share removal ?
edit : I mean effective in terms of resolution drop... for sure we can stabilize almost everything by software, but the cost is resolution then.

The subject line of the thread lists this as Take 2, so the natural question was what happened to take 1 - is it on the cutting room floor?

Thanks for the stabilization answer. I guess with Premiere and FCP X, prosumer or not, including automatic stabilization the writing is on the wall for in-camera systems.

Did Apple ever reach out to you guys about FCP X R3D support? I'm prosumer enough to really like a lot of things about the new program.

Currently we are focusing on producing the focal lengths we have already announced.

i'm shure there is a post in which i can read, which lenses are planned but i can't find it. :-(
can you answer which focal length are planned ?

thx and greets from austria
