  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

10 Scarlet Questions with Joseph Hutson... Take 2.

Yep, that day is fully upon us. I understand they are kinda busy, but it would be good to hear about the forbidden subject... dun dun dun (scary music style). The SCARLET!

Please Red, I know you're planning to stay silent, but it seems that the Epic kids get everything they want, can we please get an update on our 2/3 camera?

Thanks in advance for the update :)

Hello there,

Just a quick question as I can't remember if it has been said or not : how much does the Scarlet fixed weight ? (with the 5" touchscreen monitor, side handle et redmote on it)

I ask this because Sachler is releasing an interesting low budget tripods (Ace20) that can support up to 5kg...

I didn't do an official "weigh in", but the configuration I shot with (Scarlet+5" Touchscreen+SideHandle) was definitely under 5 Kilograms...

I think you are sitting next to one... don't you ;-)

I REALLY hope Scarlet Removable didn't go the way of the dinosaur, too... I have "mentally" owned that camera for several years now, lol.

+1 Kyle

I was sold on the fixed but as time passed- the removable is what I really want / need/ gotta have!

So... In the RED Store, the RPP's are designated with a check mark that denotes that they are compatible with Scarlet. Must be a positive sign, unless it's an oversight. Looks like the Scarlet Removable is still on the docket. However, there is only a single entry for Scarlet there. Maybe they (Scarlet 8X, Scarlet Removable) will both ship simultaneously. If not, maybe there has been a change to the Removable and it's one of the "Surprise" down towards the bottom. I am choosing to remain hopeful at this point.

I look at it this way...I'll probably have both. I want to be able to change lenses on the Scarlet. But I also see the value in the Fixed lens first...Alot of lenses with that range cost near to what the speculated body will cost :) Someone else pointed this out over in the Scarlet discussion area.

Kyle, Have the PRO Prime lenses in the store always said Scarlet compatible? Or is this something new? I don't check often enough to up hold my conspiracy theories on plans. What I'm watching is for the Canon mount to become compatible or have a Canon mount for the Scarlet. This is where I would pick the Interchangeable before the fixed without hesitating.

I am not sure. Just checked it last night on a hunch.

There will be a different Canon and PL-mount for Scarlet, according to Jarred from earlier in the thread:

nope they are different... the 2/3" program has the ability to be much smaller and to have a very short back focal depth, which is a huge advantage, so its different in all X, Y and Z dimensions.
