  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

10 Scarlet Questions with Joseph Hutson... Take 2.

Is the UI for Scarlet different from Epic? If so, in what ways?

I think Jarred has done his 10 additional questions he pledged. If he feels like adding more, perfect.

As far as my experience, the UI is very similar. There were some slight differences (additions) on the Scarlet that the EPIC does not have.

These added functions include the accessibility of using the built-in ND filters, and the electronic control of the Aperture, Zoom, and Focus...

Overall, it is extremely intuitive just as the EPIC is...

I guess a lot of people are very curious about this question:

Any news on the default side-module? Have you decided on either CF or SSD? Or will that be a choice left to the costumer (with a premium I presume for the SSD)...?

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions!

SSD.. with an optional CF to SSD adapter for people that want to still use CF cards. This is just one of the changes to the original posted package.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Joseph. How were the additional functions designed in the interface?

Joseph used an early prototype.. its probably not fair ( or wise ) to make him answer questions.. i dont want to keep having to edit his answers :)

Hahaha, well, are you comfortable with talking about the Scarlet UI then? I'm interested in how tasks are performed with the UI in relation to the features that make Scarlet unique.

Sorry Joseph. You responded, so I just asked, hahaha.

heh heh heh.. no problem.. Joseph is part of the family and gets to see stuff nobody else does I don't want you guys to pressure him into saying things he isn't supposed to :)

There have been some great progress on the scarlet UI.. It shares the same foundation as the EPIC UI.

Great!! Thank you very much for the answer! Can't wait to see what else has changed to the package :)

Thanks, Jarred. I'm proud of Joseph. He has been able to keep a pretty tight lid on things for the past year...I know it must have been hard for him to develop those habits, hahaha.

Not trying to hijack the thread or anything, but have you thought of starting a similar kind of thread on ScarletUser? I know a lot of us miss seeing the names in Red over there, and it would mean a lot to see you guys again. :}

Scarletuser is the arm of REDUSER without RED Adult Supervision... and I like it that way. It's good for you guys to have your own sandbox that is a little less regulated. You guys are doing a good job of relaying the news.

I can understand that. It's nice to know that we can still hop over on this side of the pond every now and then to say hello. I'm excited to see all the new members we're going to get when Scarlet is released. We're building an army. >:}

fly by wire - wirelessly...

fly by wire - wirelessly...

1. Will you consider adding the option of controlling things like pan/tilt heads and motion control in the fly by wire protocol? -So we can somehow use the redmotes to control everything in the future?
2. Do you consider allowing others to develop the link between camera and touchscreen lcd for wireless control?

Will it be possible to adapt C-mount lenses to Mini-Red PL with a screw on flange adapter, similar to the Bolex EBM bayonet adapter>

How long can (or will) scarlet run on the battery (or batteries?) in the side grip? Say if it was in a surf housing, how long could one shoot for before having to come in a change batteries?

Only question I have is when do we get to see more footage... I need more crack for my eyeballs Lol

Only one question Jarred... Do you have any special machine to slower the time, answer our questions and work 27hours a day ? :coolgleamA:

absolutely..

a little hint... you will know when we are getting closer when you start seeing them out there shooting in other people's hands other than ours :)

Thanks for all the feedback...
;-) Another hint... My hands are ready to hold the RED Scarlet Fixed...
