The previous version of this had terrible noise floor, is that gone? I bought it and returned it because the noise floor was so loud that I couldn't record any subtle sound at all.

they have no native smpte timecode clock.Hi guys.
H6 has SMPTE timecode syncing ? Or at least a viable time code to use in RDCX or premiere? H4 has a time code in 4 track rec mode, but can't be used in any app.
thanks.
Hi Ryan, have you tried the shotgun attachment when mounted on camera? Any chance you can post a picture of this setup with the various cables attached? Audio is definitely not my thing...Okay, for what it's worth, I finally got a clean signal to the Epic! And I mean clean enough to actually use for corporate stuff. I had first bought a Sescom 3.5mm -25db attenuated cable (DON'T BUY this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sescom-LN2M...-6-/390615578480?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:CA:3160) and the signal still seemed like it was coming in too hot, even with the line out level cranked down. So here's my solution:
1. Any 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male
2. Attenuated (-40db) phono jack to 3.5mm (I bought this one: http://www.thesource.ca/estore/prod...e&category=NetworkAccessories&product=2740300)
3. 3.5mm jack to phono plug (I bought this one: http://www.thesource.ca/estore/prod...ne&category=Audio+Accessories&product=2740871)
4. Set line level output in Zoom H6 to -10db.
5. Set the RED Epic audio channel to unbalanced and the level to the absolute minimum (which I believe is +30db)
...so the path is Zoom H6 (with line level output set to -10db) -> 3.5mm cable (male to male) -> 3.5mm to phono plug -> attenuated (-40db) phono jack to 3.5mm -> RED Epic (channel set to unbalanced and level at the minimum, which is +30db)
It's not very pretty but it works and sounds great. So I guess the long-term solution is to find a 3.5mm to 3.5mm (male to male) -40db attenuted cable. I just ordered this one... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/287412-REG/Remote_Audio_CAFPTPAD_Stereo_1_8_Mini_Output.html
Hey, Ryan, thanks for sharing this info. How did the BH cable work out?(...)So I guess the long-term solution is to find a 3.5mm to 3.5mm (male to male) -40db attenuted cable. I just ordered this one... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/287412-REG/Remote_Audio_CAFPTPAD_Stereo_1_8_Mini_Output.html
thanks Ryan, incredibly helpful! I'm getting some of these cables and adapters tomorrow for virtually the same setup, based on your list. Much appreciated on the photos. I ordered this cable since the B&H one was out of stock, will let you know if it works:

I also have a -35Db attenuated cable coming from another manufacturer so will text both...
so are you recording to the H6 SD and directly to camera simultaneously this way? sorry dumb question, trying to figure out audio!
For use to record atmospheric sounds in stereo, how good is it to have around? The H4n had ridiculously bad noise on lower volume sounds, it was so bad that I had it returned because I couldn't get any usable atmospherics for sound design at all. And if the H6 isn't up for that either, is there any other that works? Price doesn't matter, but it has to be a system that works on it's own in stereo.
there is actually a back up record mode in the h6 i was messing around with. it will automatically make a duplicate track that is -12db. so one mic in, 2 tracks out.![]()
Just ordered this one (the 20db version) to see if it works... http://www.core-sound.com/attenuator-cables.html
