  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WHO TOOK DRAGON CARBON FIBER???

Jupp, it going to be interesting to see how it all rolls out. But I think the guys that have received their carbon dragons now have a very big chance of making their money back and more before the rest of us that did not jump on this option even has dragon sensors at hand. If it plays out so that the Epic M's takes more time then the last estimations then I think carbon will pay back many times over.
 
I got another gentlemen who has taken delivery of a Epic Carbon Dragon:

He sent me some BTS. It's sick.

My advice is that you should always maintain a correspondence with your rep periodically to see what the progress/delivery date is, as well as to continue to reiterate the order in general. I certainly don't mind pestering my rep at all!

Yes, I agree. I have contacted and asked about 4 times. including yesterday..... and nothing yet, no camera assigned.
 
Cameras are being built as soon as they are released to ship we will contact the next in line.

Will we make $21000 before the regular Dragons are commonly available? That's the math. Well, maybe that's not fair. Let's say the added value is worth $5000 (it's not really worth $21 000 in most markets - few people are really buying this for the weight, and I think almost no one would pay $21 000 more for only that feature - it's for the "Early Dragon Advantage". But $5000? OK, even after Regular Dragons are an option.

As for Steadicam, the current Epic is already too light - any good Steadicam OP can carry a Red One MX even, pretty much all day, let alone a regular Epic, and the added inertia of more weight is helpful, especially when there is even a tiny bit of wind, so to say this helps Steadicam ops is to reveal oneself as a non-Steadicam operator.

So the question is would we make $16 000 before we could buy the cheaper Dragon, in rental sot ourselves or others. Hard to say. Especially with shipping times unclear on both the Carbons after ordering and the eventual "Dragon Regulars" - so we don't know what the window of opportunity is.

Also not sure who much people will embrace Dragon, or whether they will just stick to Alexa (never underestimate the desire of producers to stick with what they know, against all logic - and a new sensor does not fix how some techno-illeterate Acs and DPs still can't wrap their heads around Epic and its menus, even what RAW really means, etc).
 
4k Alexa will certainly be a contender.

Will carbon dragon come down in price eventually, like $5-$7k more than Dragon-X, or will it alwayse be a specialty item?
 
Dragon CF and RED ROCKET-X both in the house. Incredible.

We shot on the Dragon for a few hours today. Tested a handful of familiar configurations and then pushed the thing to see where the new boundaries fall. We were blown away. The Dragon is every bit as spectacular as we wished and even a little beyond what we had imagined. After-wards, we installed the RED ROCKET-X and were shocked at just how well it performed. We read estimates and had discussions with RED-folks between NAB 2013 and today, but they must have been holding back on the real performance because the RR-X is phenomenally better than we had thought.

For anyone not sure if they have the budget for an RR-X just stop right there. It's indispensable and absolutely must be a part of your Dragon workflow.

We'll post more of the nitty-gritty in another day or two, but suffice it to say this week has been awesome and we couldn't be happier to own a Dragon and have an RR-X.

Update from today 22 november.

Today Bomb squad does not have a release date for our Carbon.

"Orders Placed today expected to ship Within 2-3 weeks."
"Due to the unique nature of this product, additional processing time may be required"
respecting these terms.

- Erich time in days , 58-21 = 37 days over 3 weeks
- Luigi time in days 43-21 = 21 days over 3 weeks
- Gregg 17 days. in delivery yet.

Jarred good give us some good news :biggrin:
