  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Where is Red's answer to Alexa NAB 2013 showreel?

I guess it's just a poor vimeo upload. But it all looks very soft, If I was Arri I would for sure try to make it look as sharp as possible.

No offense meant, but the "it looks soft" criticism seems to have become code for "I don't like it but have no real reason why". The images are beautiful, just like images from a RED are beautiful, and images from a 5D mark whatever are beautiful.

At this point, I don't think it should be camera companies making reels like this, it should be lens manufacturers. With cameras from all manufacturers being as good as they are, lenses are where I see the real difference being made in an image. Even then, it's all personal taste. It's awesome.

Looks like video..big deal

looks like video? lol funny
im sure Roger Deakins,Emmanuel Lubezki,Robert Richardson and many others not shooting video in these days :) i love Red so much but ignorance makes me crazy..looking for IGNORE button on these type threads

sorry Bjorn i ll tell Arri they ll send you 4K Reel next year...(oh Alexa is not shooting 4K right? then it must be really bad camera we dont count anything below 6K as a camera)

I'm not about to cut you a sizzle real, but.....

42

The Great Gatsby

The Hobbit

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Flight

At NAB Red is showing a sizzle reel and trailers from Flight and 42 in 4K. You feel like your there. In the theater they are projecting a special montage of material from The Hobbit in 4K and it's utterly amazing. A lot of texture and richness to the images.

lets put this reel on a 4k display next year or the year after and see if 1080p was good enough in 2013 for a 4k blowup in 2014 or 2015.

nice images, no disrespect to the craft and quality of the work. Sad part is its 1/4 the resolution needed in today's acquisition.

it IS a big deal. no other camera on earth currently has colors or dynamic range that can match what you see int hat video period

Until Dragon. If the specs are to be believed, then Dragon's DR will surpass Alexa's. The colors...are what you make them. It's RAW.

Did you see the 4K "uprez" of SKYFALL in Digital IMAX? SHarpest digital projection I've ever seen.

Actually that ARRi reel and others were playing on a Sony 4K monitor at NAB 2013.

Lets not be confused Red images are sharper than Alexa images thats for damn SURE!!! BUT in Hollywood they use a reliance/Reliant Noise reduction system sharpening system on almost all digitally acquired footage. Arri and Sony know this and so does Red. This reel and Red's reel speak more about the cinema craft more than it does the Camera.

the Vimeo upload is rather soft, but dang the reel looks super sexy
