  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Where in line are we and how manmy ordered?

If you look closely at that production line picture... you will see there are only around 12 units build... A happy few will receive one once they are done with QC.

lol

No, the picture only indicates a working production line with approx. 12 units that were left out (assuming this was the night of the 3rd) unfinished. How many days it has been running is unsure, and how many per day is unsure, and how may lines are unsure. But that picture is pure porn!!!

Don't forget there QC process. For the Epic's they had 28 on a shelf. They didn't ship but 5 a day it seemed for awhile. I'd rather have Scarlets built and be slow now with good QC and let out of the house when they're all grown up, tested and ready to go.

it's pretty hard to tell whats going on. At first I thought the Tonaci incident was a publicity stunt to calm the anticipation, which in a way it was but then I heard a few more Scarlets actually went out.

Don't really know since some Red Owners never bother with this forum. At the same time if I got a Scarlet I'd probably be up for a couple days shooting, only touching a computer for Cine-X.

We do have a little over a week which I hope is enough time to at least sort out the first 500-700 orders. Beyond that it may look like late Dec-Jan for the 700+ orders.

Lets just hope that they can keep it together for the 1st. The Backorder Coming Soon list is pretty long.

Haven't really checked but how is Stage 3 moving along?

Again, it should be noted that by moving from the 2/3rds fixed to Epic lite for Scarlet, RED has a pretty substantial headstart on the process of building Scarlets as the difference between a Scarlet and Epic in the production stage is fairly minimal. I would fully expect the ramp up of Scarlet to be much quicker than the Epic ramp up. And we've seen, what, a ~1000 Epic-Xs ship since the beginning of September? It seemed like most of September passed with very few reports of Epic-Xs being delivered. By the middle of October there were tons of people noting that they had received their Xs. I would assume that period from initial shipping to ramp up will end up being shorter for Scarlet.

What other camera manufacturer runs a public forum where software updates, firmware unlocks and new tools are given away for free.... advice is dispensed from department heads, technical experts and the CEO...

If you ordered the Canon C300, would you be able to start a post asking Fujio Mitarai when your camera will arrive? No, because they announce 3-4 months before anything starts to ship. I've got a project I'm dying to shoot with Scarlet Dec 3-4, but I'm keeping calm and assuming it wont happen.

I'm pretty calm too, but the point I think most people are making is the fact that some of Red's top guys are posting and responding to other questions in the same forum, and questions are asked about deadlines and they ignore it. If Canon had a forum with the top guys responding and questions were deliberately ignored, their users would question things too. We all of course appreciate the use of the forum, but come on, we bought these cameras with our money, and we do have a right to know details.

Also, I've only been posting for about a month but viewing for about a year or more, and it is not a new thing that RED doesn't seem to want to answer certain questions. These feelings of doubt were brought about by RED from the beginning with late schedules and not enough info about the product ship dates. To be a bit more clear, I think we all understand Red's position is difficult, but a simple forum titled Expected delivery dates that no posts were allowed which was updated consistently would shut us all up. How hard can that be? So the question remains is why doesn't RED do this? Not one person on this forum really expects RED to meet deadlines anymore but we would all feel comfortable with knowledge on changes as the promised dates pass.

I think this point is getting lost and anytime someone asks about delivery there is so many others defending RED, when the questions aren't to cause problems but to make people feel a bit better. I mean, we are not getting these cameras for free. Yes RED is doing us all a favor in producing cameras, but they aren't doing this for our health here. As customers we should know more if we buy a product; it is that simple.

Just a quick update- my accessories order (64GB SSD pack, 4x Redvolt pack, DSMC charger, 5" Touch LCD) placed on the 3rd was shipped today. The side handle from the same order is still on backorder.

EDIT: this was from SO 0051225

Planing ANY projects relying on equipment you are not using for a year (years actually) - sounds like gambling to me :) I have NO particular planes to use Scarlet-X in ANY projects before I play with it for a month (or more likely - several moths). Even if have one in flesh right away for any real project I will personally go to rent same R1-MX and keep using already "battle tested" gear. Otherwise entire workflow is not reliable at all.

Hey Dmitry

The workflow from the Scarlet, Epic and R1 are the same it is the same R3D files. I can understand taking a month to understand and get use to all the options. Personally A month to get to know a piece of gear is a long time, unless you never shot with prime lenses.

Cool what so number?

My Fed-Ex guy -who drops by the studio 2-3 times a week, and is a huge camera geek- is completely stoked about delivering the Scarlet… He was joking today that he'll see it before me.
