  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What colour Grading system should I upgrade to?

And Resolve would keep rendering in the background as you're grading the timeline and keep updating as you make changes? Ooops, not really:)
I'm not too sure Jake, I never use render cache before, since Resolve always give me realtime playback up until 14 nodes :)

Resolve caching designed for real time playback, when your GPU real time rendering is not up to task. FM background caching is a standard way of operation. Big diff...
Jake, I really don't get it what's the big difference?
Maybe I'm missing something here?

PS: sorry if this is way out of topic :)

Yes, as I'd said already, NO RENDER needed at the end of the session and ALWAYS FULL RESOLUTION, while grading. Not 1/4 or, if you lucky 1/2 resolution. If you don't get the difference, I can't help you...

It should also be noted that the design of all current Autodesk systems products is based on dealing only with uncompressed image sequences internally. One purpose of the gateway is to allow for new file format integration without having to change the core code. This allows the core operations to occur without the burden of compressing or decompressing multiple layers in either a timeline or an Action composite. And yes, changing that would be a major rewrite and would likely affect performance.
Yes you're correct. The situation wouldn't be a big deal, if not for the new compressed type sources, such as RAW material. Autodesk finds itself in the position, where they don't have a good idea how to overcome miscalculation, that they had made, when original gateway was introduced to handle specifically R3D files. That is why they even have difficulties handling open EXR, where they introduced a new type of import in Flame. Can't quite remember the name of the new import module...

Let me get this straight Jake...
Now you telling me that Resolve's Render Cache doesn't render the DPX in full resolution? Is that what you meant?
