  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon wish

Mentioned that idea earlier in this thread, glad to hear others are interested in such a feature. It would be so amazing if Red cracked the holy grail of time lapse once and for all!

Thats what HDRx is really great for. Apparently no one bothers to use it for it. Lol.

I just wish there would be a key-framing feature in cine-x. So you can keyframe exposure values on the timeline before exporting.

Even more DR specialy to the upper end (smoother highlight roll-off)
Proes4444XQ 4k on board recording
Integrated Lenscontroller Board for C-Motion and or ARRI Motors/Handheld Units
Viewfinder like from the Panasonic Varicam 35
Integrated WiFi Module with Webserver for cameracontrol via all devices
Variable in Camera scaling to record full sensor at 4k/2k RAW

But most important: make it a good camera! Wifi radio-remote can be good, but then there will be better 3rd party just a few months later.
- Awesome lowlight and hi-light behavior!
- Make camera very tuff and resistant to water and dust and not strange crash or bugs.
- Open hardware-bus standard that 3rd party can use and build cool stuff.
- Really fast internal electronics and minimize read-time on sensor to make sensor artifacts small
- Small meny-screen on camera.

my hopes for Weapon

So this is already 100% possible now on Dragon with external software using RCP protocol. Not rocket science.

Thank you Mark. I was not sure if that was all exposed or not. Would be nice to get an app like that, which would work in conjunction with the Kessler motion control stuff for a move-shoot-move time lapse and motion mount ramping. :)

I'd suggest something like this ... set a "baseline" exposure for the time lapse - and then, use the histogram values (which are transmitted over RCP and can be monitored) to calculate a compensate with Motion Mount ND value adjustments.

It could obviously also be done in firmware. (set a "base line" exposure for the time lapse - check a box that says something like "Auto Adjust Motion Mount ND".

Maybe even a start and stop point as well so it does not go beyond the ND limit you set.

=aniel Kelly Brown]Mentioned that idea earlier in this thread

Did not mean to repost your idea, sorry about that. :)

This is more of a post process, but I would like to see some lens correction added. I sold off my Nikon G lenses because I felt they had too much chromatic aberration on my MX. Would be nice to have some ability to fix lens issues like ACR and DxO built into the SDK. Would be a big undertaking to profile the various lenses on the Weapon Dragon sensor. Or if DxO would add Dragon support to their app and would do the profiling that would be wonderful. :)

Seems like it made most people's list, so hope you add it:

Internal ND. Took this for granted for so many years until I didn't have it. It is a major convenience and saves time when shooting.

Longer battery life and the ability to record 1080 pro res would allow me to use my Red for most of my projects. Sadly, most my clients want to walk with HD files at the end of the shoot day and 4k is way more than they need.

I would like to have a back handle to operate the camera from the back like a lot of dp do it handling the camera from the battery and a wireless receiver for follow focus motors integrated in the body!

First I am very happy with mine Red One, Epic-M/X and Dragon cameras as I had been used last couple years for Film or TV commercial projects, Thanks so much Red Team and Jim...

1. Internal ND Filter
2. MONITOR LEMO OUTPUT can be move to Camera Right Side, CUZ as when you change the lenses, you will gonna hit the LEMO plug very often, this will damage the LEMO plug
3. Keep 2 of PL-Mount Nose, easier to releas the mount once changing lenses
4. Up to 500 F.P.S. in 4K if possible

A simple wish for Weapon:

Rumor has it that the current DSMC Side Handle will not be compatible with Weapon, however a new design may replace it. I simply ask that none of the default User Keys are set to "Unmount Media". :-)

Yes, I'm aware that by pressing User Keys 1 and 4 simultaneously, one can disable all Side Handle keys. Also, they can be reprogrammed in camera or by using the Key Mapper app included in the DSMC Tool Kit. These are great options to have, but since the camera body already has a much better short cut for this (simultaneously hold down User Keys 1 and 2 on the SSD module, which is safer), not to mention simply using the touchscreen or cursor navigation to Unmount from the camera menu, there has always been an unnessesary risk of accidentally bumping the control. Also, one may not wish to disable all of the other useful keys to quickly avoid this potential problem.

I'm hoping that the next Side Handle design does not default to this and that RED even still considers changing this in future Epic / Scarlet firmware updates. Sure, I can set it anyway I like, but as a rental house, and for ACs to always have to be concerned with this when receiving a camera, it really doesn't make sense to have it default to that. The argument that you can always customize it should be used for adding this mostly unwanted feature, not for removing it.

If I remember correctly, it took a long time for RED to add a second layer of protection back into the menus for formatting media. (An "Are you sure?" type of option). The RED ONE had this functionality, so it was odd when it was not included in Epic/Scarlet, but eventually, it made its way back into the firmware.

Im hoping logic prevails, and it is still possible RED reconsiders leaving unmount out as a User Key default on the current and future Side Handle designs. And just think, that key could then default to something much more useful less risky, such as Gio Scope or Horizon.

My $.02

I use the hot key to eject media all the time. Love it. Hate the auto white balance button!

I also hate the auto white balance button.

Since everyone has different side handle button presets, it could be cool if a quick single press on a sidehandle button gives you on-screen visual text of the action you're about to do, then a long hold engages the action.

That way you can keep buttons like auto white balance or eject, but you know what you're getting into before you accidentally activate that feature.

Plus you could see what each button is set to quickly without having to go through submenus to check it out or mess up your current settings by hitting buttons to find out what they do.

I have a question about this as it comes up time to time.

If in the future Red releases a larger sensor and it's sticking to the general DCI 1.9:1 standard they have been going with, will this effect your desire to have a 4:3 sensor? Even though it would be a 4:3 crop of that wider/larger sensor?

Just curious.

This is something to think about.

Personally the most Cinematic way to shoot Arri and if I had to would be 4:3 with Anamorphics

This option would be awesome if we had a Dragon 4:3 but it's such a niche market.

If we get a FF35 RED they could program a 4:3 S35 mode and problem would be solved.

I'd be happy =)

Man there's some great comments on here with valid and reasonable needs and others that are like "dude go download the latest firmware, flash your camera and read the manual).

Red has been checking the list off for sometime now while you've been sleeping or whatever it is you do.

What I think Weapon will have:
1. no fan
2. no obstructions around the lens mount
3. built-in ND
4. built-in right-side menu controls without needing a touchscreen
5. multiple SDI out
6. 300fps in 4k
7. connections on the rear right side of camera instead of underneath

What I wish it will have in addition to above:
1. Waveform
2. Quicker way to change lens mounts
3. 1000fps in 4K
4. full-size XLR audio inputs
5. built-in 15mm rod mount (like some competitors have)
6. OLPF changer wheel
7. Crazy cool stuff I've never thought of

The suspense is kill'n me =]
ordering my Dragon upgrade within the next couple of weeks...

requested forever by video camera users.Nobody wants to delete single multiple clips on mag.Its against nature of film magazine.
Im saying its the most easiest thing in the world. Its doable but nobody wants that option.Except videographers (5D,DSLRs)

I filled all of my mags with footage and then the sun set and the lighting was absolutely PERFECT for one of those once-a-year shots that you just dream of capturing. I would have deleted any shot on the mag to be able to grab it really quick but I couldn't. I just sat there and remorsefully saw it slip away because I had no way to make room to shoot it except to delete half an hour of footage.

+ I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to add a phase-shift autofocus system. Probably not with the space constraints.
+1 on flip flop.
+1 on LUTs
+1 on internal ND
+would be nice to have peaking like everyone else has where it is a color overlay. Get a nice bold RED or green pixel instead of white which can be hard to see on some shots.
+10 on built in 15mm rod receivers.
++ on having a built in top plate.
+++++ on being a standard height this time to not need a shim. (See built in 15mm).

It would be great if an Epic wouldn't require $5,000 in accessories to be ready to shoot. Integrate all of the crap that everyone has to buy every time. And if it's built in it'll be lighter.
