  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon wish

I don't care what comes with the Weapon as long as theres a way to get around black shading the camera.

2 problems here: - critical focus point moves around frame, so might move out of zoomed in portion.- You would no longer be able to see the whole frame and balance out the image. Conclusion: I would never use this.I WOULD use nice bright red focus peaking, especially if I could choose it being on SDI/HDMI out only, touch screen only, etc., so the focus puller could get the help they need, while the client gets a clean look at the image at the same time.

Ive thought about this. PIP should work ok and not always the perfect solution. If you can jog the "punched in" portion to the part of the frame where the close up mark is on the eyes (lets say) and the operator more or less frames the persons head in the same place on each take then its a usable feature. You have the framed shot in the whole monitor and the punched in portion in the chosen lower corner of the frame for critical focus on at the most critical part of the take.

With a larger sensor coming, focus will be more of an issue and this kind of feature maybe valuable. And if you can also move the punched in part during the shot somehow, even better.

I wouldn't be surprised if somehow you could use the side handle with the weapon, or they came out with an updated side handle. A lot of people (myself included) really like it.

Pretty sure the old Side Handle has been declared DOA for Weapon. It would be cool if someone came of with at least a tether of some sort to attach it externally.

Jarred declared the existing handle not compatible with Weapon. I'm certainly hoping a new design is in the works.

YES...thumbnail playback with ability to delete individual clips in camera. This should have been tackled via firmware three years ago IMO. Must happen.

Yes! I was on a hike to the top of a peak and like a dumba** forgot a card in the car. I filled up my first card and knew I had more space, low and behold I realized I only had one card, so I only could format the card or call it a day. Really wanted to delete unwanted clips. Was annoying being limited my such an easy option that could be integrated.

While I agree that the feature would be nice, this tale of human error exemplifies the concept of human error. Which is one of the reasons delete clip isn't available.

Once delete clip or delete last clip is in there it's the moment where somebody also uses it on accident.

I guess it could be a feature to activate deep in the menus. "Do you want to be able to delete clips? Y/N".

I don't disagree about how it can be implemented, I'm just voicing one of the major concerns.

Imagine that being left to "Y" on a rental cam put on a feature. There's always a chance for chaos.

There's people who have formatted full cards with $$$$$$$$$ shots on them even.

I personally don't care either way as I'm generally very familiar with the cameras, but it's crazy out there.

Micro SD slot for FW upgrades.

Here are the reasons why.

1. It's nice on jobs to carry a release version and a previous release version of FW in case you have to reinstall (remote location)
2. Inexpsnive way to store and transfer look/LUT files .
3. Might be nice to implement a snapshot/screenshot feature
4. with the minimag price it's hard to justify a minimag left aside for this purpose.

Ha! Yeah, this is the only reason I can see why it hasn't been implemented yet. It makes less human error possible before the card gets to the DIT.

Phil, I have two Panasonic P2 cameras. Since 2007, I have never ever deleted a clip accidentally, nor did I ever have any kind of data corruption on my cards as a result of deleting clips. My P2 cards have been rock solid and bullet proof. I delete clips all the time, and I know that there are thousands of shooters just like me... the ones who end up editing their own work. Deleting clips is a huge time saver. I never really understood the whole human error argument, if someone is that scared of erasing data by mistake then that someone should never come close to deleting a clip, but that doesn't mean that this feature should not exist.

So RED will let you accidentally format an entire card but not delete a single clip? If they are trying to get rid of stupidity, they should prevent people from over-exposing as well.

Again, I welcome the feature if implemented, but there are very real reasons that it hasn't existed before now and this is just one of them. There are two sides to this "thing" and I understand that.

Normally I'm with you but I think this needs to be (at least) an option. It is in just about every other system.

Thumbnail previews, individual clip deletion/management, and even R3D trimming would be so great to at least have as options.
