  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon wish

I simply ask that none of the default User Keys are set to "Unmount Media". :-)

I'll second that, the default unmount key on the handle was not a good idea. Like Casey, I know it's configurable, but sometimes I wind up being in a hurry with with a quick firmware update before the camera goes out on rental. The 1+2 key combo shortcut is a practical, appropriately safe way to go.

My big requests are the things that already exist in the C300:

- crazy-good low-light performance
- stupidly-good battery life
- internal optical NDs
- ability to punch in to check focus while rolling
- no black shading, or at least, more slots to store cal maps
- ability to selectively delete files
- flip flop

I realize some of these, like battery life, are due to the nature of the Dragon simply being a more powerful camera.

The black shading really is a pain in the butt in certain circumstances. I was shooting run-and-gun the other day, and since I needed to turn the camera off between locations to conserve battery life, I was swapping between 3 different cal maps -- one for outside in the freezing cold after just having turned the camera on, one for outside in the freezing cold after the camera's warmed up, and one for inside after the camera's warmed up. But if you're shooting room temp all the time, it's basically a non-issue.

What would also be nice:

- built-in 15mm rod receivers
- covers for all the ports
- a nice-looking spot next to (or on) each button for me to put stickers labeling what I’ve assigned them to do

I really don't understand the people arguing against the ability to selectively delete clips feature. If you don't like it, just don't use it.

i want it to have a 65mm sensor, or to shoot 10,000fps for 1 second at a time in 6k.. :p

+1 to get rid of the auto white balance.

Custom multiple white balance memory space like black shading has now would be great.

Maybe at least an "undo" or "restore last" custom white balance for times when we accidentally hit the button...

i want everything everybody said!

But can we get a Waveform and no latency in the video output... too small thing that can make me so happy...

Make it as light as the GH4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1:1 picture-in-picture to monitor critical focus as you shoot.

2 problems here: - critical focus point moves around frame, so might move out of zoomed in portion.- You would no longer be able to see the whole frame and balance out the image. Conclusion: I would never use this.I WOULD use nice bright red focus peaking, especially if I could choose it being on SDI/HDMI out only, touch screen only, etc., so the focus puller could get the help they need, while the client gets a clean look at the image at the same time.

as u said u can't use this all the time, but this is very useful on extreme close ups with very shallow depth of field, even if u nail the actor to the chair they will move a tiny bit... would also be great to be able to define the amount of punch/zoom... 50% magnify of the center crop is very very useful for locked shots that don't have too much movement...

I would use this often. I could adjust to the "problems" you see.

I like this too.

Built in ND (with a clear option unlike motion mount)... so very, very needed when you need it.

I would like, in the camera and in RCX, a hue setting, and something like the "selective color" tool from photoshop.

I use this ALL THE TIME on the C300. You can punch in, move around with the joystick, punch out, it's great. Particularly when shooting an interview with the talent sitting on the side of the screen and shifting front to back as they're talking so that you have to pull focus as they talk.

I also wouldn't mind a 2:1 punch-in ratio. The 1:1 isn't perfectly crisp, and a little too close for my taste.

I imagine all of this will be mostly moot when I pick up a full-HD Red touch 7", though.

If this is a wishing well i would add
4k uhd-sdi and hdmi out,
Built in electronic nd filter
Wireless video transmition built built in
A new ground breaking autofocus tool for easy focus tracking.
Actual useful 3axis sensor
Thumbnails
400-500fps
New sidehandle with built in wireless followfocus
Improved lowlight

All of that would be super awesome. I would suggest the change in the body is to make room for the new sensor that will be coming out in 2-3 years and the larger/faster computing center necessary to handle all the data associated.
