My Weapon CF keeps overheating and shutting down. I'm in my studio and the camera has been powered on for about 5 minutes and it will shut down.

I checked the Fan setting and its on adaptive.
When I sent it to Manual it seems to cool the camera down enough but manual spins the fans too loud and is unusable for dialog type work.

Please help.

Also might want to try a firmware update or roll-back.

fan speed on the weapon is a little different then on the epic. As the fan speed on the weapon in adaptive is set to the sensor calibration target temp. on the epic its the core target temp.

I like setting my Weapon CF to about 40 or 42 degrees. Fan stays very quiet indefinitely at 42, but the camera body starts to get a bit warm. I set it at 40 degrees when I'm not in a dead-quiet room, the camera stays cooler and the fan is still quiet enough for most situations.

What is your target temperature set to? Please try a lower target temperature. What speed do you need to set the manual fan settings to keep your camera from overheating?

I never changed the Adaptive setting so it is as set at the factory which is 40c

I'm on firmware 6.2.44 and temp outside is 4c

What should I set the adaptive setting to?

This has happened to me too; months ago on build 39 & now again on 44 at the mo. Will be on set in a couple of hours & can give you my build number (t's from my memory at the mo) but going to manual fan when the outside temp has been 48 & also 90 in the desert has been the only way to keep it all green in the last month.
Look forward to Foolcontrol's RS232 version to have system settings enabled too, easier than jumping out of arm cars & helicopters just to change the fan speed :-(.

I'm happy at 39 in the cold & 45 degree's in warmer situations as my goal temp, anyone found this as an ideal sweet spot too?

I been running at 46 target temp on mine. No overheating issues. I do get to 75 degree core temp a lot but it averages from 69 to 75. Also in manual 30 record and 60 pre on my last feature been the sound guys best friend.

Rory, try to re-install firmware. Had similar issue fixed by a clean start.

Stuart you can easily change fan speed settings in foolcontrol RS232 or wifi version : just tap on the large T (for TEMP) at the bottom left of the record settings page...
it can also be accessed by the M menu at the bottom right via SETTINGS > SETUP > FAN CONTROL

Said it above, Michael just said it. Re-do the firmware if you have not. You probably have a sensor calibration issue.

When your camera shuts down what temperature has the sensor reached? If the ambient temperature is low (4C), you may be better off with a much cooler calibration/target temperature.

Have the same problem, set fan speed to manual...even then the fan stopped when hitting record.
Plus one of my fans doesnt spin anymore and cam says: Failed to load driver for fan // found new fan
Red told me, it's a firmware problem and that i may have to send camera back. EST for return: 3-4 weeks.

Luckily I get a loaner cam, but just an Epic and my customers wont pay the same amount of money for an epic.

Big loss here and no one covers it.

being doing a little testing today. In the studio in room temp (20c) and the core temp of the camera gets to 85c after being on for about 20 minutes. Sensor temp is 42c and fans are 41/51.
This is it just setting on the tripod don't even recording.

What is the max Temp Core it should get to.

Doh! Thanks Mikael, I was pressing the temperature / fan settings on the home page of the RS 232 version & not the T in the Record page.

BTW: Panavision are changing their CTRL port wiring to now match RED's so their PANA' version of the RED BASE EXPANDER will work for the RS232 version soon :-)

I also get to 75 core temp too.
Depending o the environment, I use the WEAPON at sensor temp 39 to 45, I use all 3 OLPF's & ISOs 800 - 3200...depending on my lighting I've had no issues with excessive noise & I'm really happy working this way, so adaptable to almost all situations, just need to get my own FDC Denz http://www.denz-deniz.com/premium-products/fdc-flange-depth-controller-for-pl-mount/

WISH LIST: 5.5K at 250fps & clean at 12,8000 ISO :-)
